Reports To: Data & Product Support Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Hours: Monday-Friday during regular business hours with flexibility as needed. Generally 40 hours per week; additional hours may be required to meet business needs

Pay Range: $92,300 - $138,500 annually

Within this range, pay offered will be based on the candidate’s skills, experience, education, and other qualifications.

Position Summary The Product Support Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support of all existing Wipaire products to both internal and external customers, assist with R&D projects, and take part in product improvement projects.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Internal and External Customer Support: Aids internal and external customers, via direct support, to overcome problems and difficulties in the use of Wipaire products. These forms of assistance include, but are not limited to:
1. Troubleshooting
2. Reviews, analyzes, understands (design issue or customer use issue) and identifies systemic safety and service issues.
3. Answers questions not readily available in technical publications, which may include direct customer interface and issuance of No-Technical Objection (NTO) letters.
4. Generates, analyzes, substantiates, and documents repair scheme designs.
5. Reviews, approves/denies, and provides feedback to Engineering Change Requests (ECR’s).
2. Product Support / Improvements: Corrects critical safety and systemic service issues discovered in our products as they are used in service. Reviews non-conforming parts and products in the process of manufacturing (MRB’s) and design changes due to challenges in manufacturing that affect the design and certification of the product.
1. Substantiates with the FAA, and implements through the ECO process both design and documentation changes, due to challenges in manufacturing/supply chain issues.
2. Provides input to Service Letters to resolve service and safety issues.
3. Participates in/approves dispositions in Material Review Boards (MRB’s) at Quality Control’s request.
3. Marketing Support: Assists Marketing in preparing materials for introduction to market.
4. Generation and maintenance of non-FAA approved technical publications: Assists other Wipaire employees in generating data or reviewing newly generated documents that are not FAA approved, but are helpful in the process of building, installing, operating and maintaining our products. These documents include:
1. Parts Manuals
2. Manufacturing work instructions
3. Current product Bills of Materials (BOM)

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education, Experience and Credentials

• Four-year degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or similar engineering strongly preferred.
• Three to six years’ minimum practical aerospace engineering experience strongly preferred.
• Structural design and repair experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The knowledge and skills noted below may be demonstrated through prior education, training, and/or experience, or acquired through training and on-the-job development after hire. Candidates are expected to possess or demonstrate the ability to learn and develop the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully perform the items below .

• Knowledge of FAA certification processes, including new products, parts, manufacturing processes, aerospace drawings, and managerial/documentation control requirements.
• Able to make proactive design decisions and move forward with projects based on available information; able to think analytically and select a design method from many alternatives.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science, materials, and aerospace technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of new products.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Able to demonstrate advanced engineering skill sets, such as the following:
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for part level components and assembly level interactions.
  • Classical aerodynamic analysis and structural analysis techniques in support of certification reports.
  • Classical analysis for aerospace structures, lift, and drag.
  • Material processing of aluminum and steel alloys and heat treatments;
  • Material processing of composite materials and structures.
• Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of products.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THIS JOB

• Perform occasional lifting of supplies and equipment weighing 50+ pounds.
• Comprehend, speak, and communicate in the English language, including following verbal and written instructions, in order to communicate with people inside and outside the organization.
• Sit at a desk for extended periods of time and perform long hours of work sitting at a computer.
• Move around the shop and office area repeatedly throughout the day and drive to other Wipaire facilities as needed.
