Entity Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) Worker Type Employee Worker Sub-Type Regular Cost Center CC001483 LAN - Endoscopy (LMC) Pay Rate Type Hourly Pay Grade Health-21 Scheduled Weekly Hours 36 Work Shift Day (United States of America) Job Description The Endoscopy Technician reports to the Nurse Manager and plays an essential role in supporting the Gastroenterology (GI) team by assisting physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff before, during, and after endoscopic procedures. This position is responsible for preparing procedure rooms, processing and maintaining sterile and non-sterile instruments and equipment, assisting with diagnostic and therapeutic GI procedures, and ensuring a safe, efficient, and patient-centered environment. The Endoscopy Technician contributes to exceptional patient care by maintaining procedural readiness, supporting clinical teams, and ensuring compliance with infection prevention and safety standards. Essential Responsibilities Procedural Support Assist physicians and nursing staff during gastrointestinal procedures, including upper endoscopies (EGDs), colonoscopies, flexible sigmoidoscopies, bronchoscopies, and other diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Prepare procedure rooms with the appropriate equipment, instruments, and supplies prior to each case. Assist with patient positioning, comfort, and transport while maintaining patient dignity and safety. Support the procedural team by anticipating equipment and supply needs during procedures. Monitor and communicate equipment concerns or procedural needs to the clinical team. Equipment & Instrument Management Clean, disinfect, inspect, and reprocess flexible endoscopes and accessories according to manufacturer instructions, organizational policies, and infection prevention guidelines. Perform leak testing and ensure proper storage of endoscopes following reprocessing. Prepare, assemble, troubleshoot, and maintain endoscopy equipment and video systems. Monitor equipment functionality and report malfunctions promptly for repair or replacement. Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and assist with ordering and stocking as needed. Infection Prevention & Safety Adhere to all infection prevention, sterilization, and high-level disinfection standards. Ensure compliance with OSHA, CDC, AORN, SGNA, Joint Commission, and hospital policies as applicable. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe procedural environment. Properly dispose of biohazardous materials and contaminated equipment. Patient Care Support Assist nursing staff with patient preparation before procedures. Obtain and document patient information as directed. Monitor patient comfort and assist with basic patient care activities within the scope of practice. Respond appropriately during emergency situations by assisting the procedural team. Quality & Professional Development Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental performance goals. Attend required education, competency validation, and departmental meetings. Stay current with advances in gastrointestinal procedures, equipment, and endoscope reprocessing practices. Demonstrate excellent teamwork, professionalism, and customer service while supporting patients, families, physicians, and colleagues. Additional Job Description Education High school diploma or GED required. Experience Previous experience in an endoscopy unit, operating room, sterile processing, or procedural environment is preferred. Experience with flexible endoscope reprocessing is preferred. Licensure & Certifications Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification is preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of sterile technique, infection prevention practices, and endoscope reprocessing standards. Ability to prepare and maintain endoscopy equipment and instrumentation. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced procedural environment. Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while maintaining patient safety.
