Fiber Splicer

Prepares and splices fiber optic cables in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Splicing fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon optic cables.
• Constructing a proper splice case, including but not limited to grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage, and sealing.
• Preparing and maintaining accurate splicing records, schematics, and diagrams.
• Performing work in accordance with industry standards and adhering to safety procedures.
• Maintaining control of activities surrounding the assigned work site(s).
• Supporting project timelines and providing accurate feedback.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job qualifications include:

• 2+ years of technical education or training required.
• 2+ years of field experience as a telecommunications technician required.
• Working knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure required.
• Familiarity with fiber optic cable and splice enclosures required.
• Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
• Travel will be required and may be up to 80%, depending on the business needs.
• Ability to work long hours involving overtime and weekends, as necessary.
• Ability to respond to the needs of a 24/7/365 operation.
• Must be able to work emergency schedules during natural disasters and network outages.
• Individuals must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record meeting the company and insurance policy conditions.

• Ability to drive and back up a truck and trailer proficiently.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces.
• Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather.
• Ability to climb and work at elevations (i.e., from ladders, poles, lift trucks) exceeding 18 feet.
• Able to use a shovel and post hold digger.
• Ability to work at heights up to 50'.
• Must be able to climb poles.
• Lifting up to 50 pounds several times a day.
• Overhead lifting of over 20 pounds.
• Ability to work in confined spaces (i.e., attics, crawl spaces, utility holes).

Physical requirements include:

This is a physically demanding, Medium-Heavy position requiring prolonged standing and walking; frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, twisting, reaching, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; the ability to work at elevated heights and on uneven terrain; and the ability to safely operate tools, equipment, ladders, and vehicles. The position requires working outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions and may involve work in remote locations.
