The Role Elite Healthcare Staffing is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse - Med Surg to join our team. The Med Surg RN will provide safe, high-quality nursing care to patients in an acute care hospital setting while utilizing the nursing process, clinical judgment, and strong communication skills. This role requires recent Med Surg experience, strong clinical documentation skills, and the ability to float to other units as needed, including PCU. The RN will work collaboratively with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families to support excellent patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities Assess patients upon admission within specified time frames, including consideration of physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs. Reassess each patient’s health needs whenever warranted by the patient’s condition and at least every shift, utilizing the nursing process after obtaining a systematic database. Establish a plan of care based on identified data from all appropriate sources. Review and update the plan of care for each assigned patient using data obtained from reassessments. Administer oral, topical, and parenteral medications utilizing the seven rights of medication administration. Assess and document the effectiveness and any adverse or untoward effects of medications and treatments. Perform treatments and procedures in accordance with common nursing practice, hospital policy and procedure, sterile technique, standard precautions, and patient privacy. Document patient response to care, including pain management, discharge planning needs, education, and progress toward goals. Document in a legible and accurate manner, including date and time of entry, signature, and title. Educate patients and families based on assessed needs and utilize “Krames” patient education resources where appropriate. Interpret and analyze diagnostic data and reports, and intervene appropriately. Promptly communicate changes in patients’ clinical conditions to physicians and other healthcare team members as appropriate. Use SBAR communication for all patient handoffs. Demonstrate consideration of patient rights, including confidentiality, safety, and patient participation in the plan of care. Evaluate and document patient care provided and the effectiveness of patient teaching. Participate in multidisciplinary care planning. Demonstrate knowledge of restraint application criteria and the ability to manage patients in restraints per hospital policy. Follow the National Patient Safety Goals. Follow hospital policy on the use of two patient identifiers. Understand the hospital Disaster Plan and the RN’s role within it. Understand how to activate the Rapid Response Team. Complete orientation to Life Safety Standards, including Code Blue, Code Pink, Hazmat spills, Code Red, and oxygen shut-off valve procedures. Follow hospital infection control policies and procedures. Demonstrate knowledge of blood transfusion policy and required documentation. Understand the Chain of Command and access it appropriately. Wash hands before and after each patient contact. Follow guidelines for Core Measures and vaccine control. Additional Responsibilities Diagnose and establish patient treatment plans in collaboration with the healthcare team. Monitor and report changes in patient symptoms, behavior, or clinical condition. Communicate with collaborating physicians, specialists, and care team members regarding patient care. Educate patients on health maintenance, disease prevention, treatment plans, and discharge instructions. Facilitate referrals to other healthcare professionals and medical facilities as needed. Maintain accurate and timely patient medical records. Provide advice, education, and emotional support to patients and family members. Required Experience Minimum of 3 years of recent Med Surg experience in an acute care facility. Minimum of 3 years of recent PCU/MS Tele experience in an acute care facility. Must be able to float to other units as needed. Float Pool experience preferred. Required to float to PCU as needed. Epic experience highly preferred. Required Licenses and Certifications Current and valid California RN License . Current BLS certification required. Current NIHSS certification required. ACLS preferred. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. Previous acute care hospital experience preferred. Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital environment. Excellent communication, documentation, and patient education skills. Strong understanding of patient safety standards, infection control, and hospital policies. Ability to provide compassionate care to a culturally diverse patient population.
