Work Location : Napa, California
Status : Full-Time, Non-Exempt (1.0 FTE). This at-will position is fully funded for one year, and continued employment is contingent on additional funding. 
Reports to : Senior Project Manager, Volunteers
Starting Annual Salary Range : $71,282 to $80,226* (dependent on experience)
*Staff members who hold a current bilingual certification and whose positions, as determined by the Executive Director, require the use of Spanish are eligible for a premium of 3.5% (Level 1, oral proficiency) or 4.0% (Level 2, oral and written proficiency) of regular base salary. 

The Coordinator, Community Engagement supports Napa RCD's public engagement, communications, and marketing across all program areas (Watershed Health, Forest Health, Regenerative Agriculture, and Community & Youth Engagement). Reporting to the Senior Project Manager (Volunteers), and working under the day-to-day direction of assigned Program staff, this role is responsible for executing defined outreach activities and day-to-day communications needs such as social media and digital marketing, event logistics, and community engagement support – within frameworks established by assigned Program staff. Because the role also supports organization-wide priorities related to marketing, staff trainings and events, and donor engagement, the Coordinator also works closely with Program Directors and the Executive Director. This position offers hands-on opportunities to develop skills in conservation communications, community engagement, project coordination, and project management, while working across Napa RCD’s diverse programs.

Responsibilities
Digital Marketing, Social Media & Storytelling

• Develop, schedule, and post content across Napa RCD's social media platforms, maintaining a consistent posting calendar and brand voice and guided by the organizations digital marketing strategy.
• Gather stories, photos, and video from staff to profile projects, partners, and program impact for use across communications and outreach materials.
• Prepare and distribute public notices, flyers, and outreach materials in both English and Spanish.
• Draft and assemble content for Napa RCD’s e-newsletter and website, and route drafts for review and approval before publication.
• Support development of Napa RCD’s annual report, including collecting program updates, photos, and data from staff and formatting content for design.
• Coordinate with marketing and design consultants on deliverables, timelines, and brand consistency.
• Monitor and respond to routine social media engagement (comments, messages) and flag items needing programmatic or leadership response.
• Maintain a shared photo/video library and content calendar so materials are organized and reusable across programs.

Community Engagement and Event Coordination

• Support planning and logistics for virtual and in-person events, including workshops, community meetings, input sessions, field days, webinars, site tours, staff trainings, and celebrations.
• Manage event registration and communications (e.g., Eventbrite or similar platforms), attendee tracking, and post-event follow-up.
• Prepare and organize event materials, signage, presentation decks, and handouts in coordination with program staff.
• Facilitate workshops and lead volunteers in habitat restoration activities and ensure compliance with participant safety protocols. 
• Prepare tabling materials, displays, and outreach collateral, and engage with diverse audiences during events.
• Compile community input and feedback into organized summaries for review by program staff.

Project Management Support

• Data entry and routine maintenance of partner and volunteer contact records.
• Schedule project meetings, site visits, and recurring check-ins with community partners and volunteers.
• Assemble and format materials for grant applications, reports, and funder updates as directed.
• Draft routine correspondence, meeting notes, and follow-up emails 
• Track action items and deadlines across community engagement and volunteer program projects, and flag discrepancies.

• Communication Skills : Strong verbal and written communication skills with a focus on customer service, storytelling, and professional follow-through.
• Digital & Content Creation Skills : Working proficiency with social media platforms, basic graphic design or content tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express), email marketing platforms, and website content management systems.
• Event Coordination : Ability to manage logistics for multiple concurrent events, including registration systems, materials preparation, and day-of coordination.
• Organizational Skills : Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to self-direct day-to-day task management within a supervisor-established framework while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Operational Judgment : Ability to identify problems, troubleshoot, and make reasonable decisions independently in event and field settings, knowing when to escalate to their direct Supervisor or members of Napa RCD’s leadership team as appropriate.  
• Collaboration & Teamwork : Ability to work effectively across programs and with contractors, consultants, volunteers, and community partners.
• Cultural Competency : Strong cultural competency and ability to engage with diverse communities, with an emphasis on addressing the needs of marginalized and underrepresented groups, including BIPOC communities.
• Travel & Flexibility : Willingness to travel locally and regionally, with a flexible schedule that will include evenings and weekends, as needed for events.
• Mission Alignment : Passion for natural resource conservation, community-centered outreach, and a commitment to serving diverse communities through collaborative outreach. 

Minimum Qualifications

• Education & Experience : Some college coursework or 1-2 years of related experience in communications, marketing, event planning, community/volunteer engagement, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Licensure & Permits : Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Communication Skills : Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish. 
• Technical Skills : Familiarity with social media management, basic graphic design tools, and event registration platforms.

Essential Physical Requirements
The role demands constant alertness, safe work practices, frequent computer use, and extended seating. It involves outdoor work in varied conditions, physical activities like hiking, tool use, and lifting up to 30 pounds, and comprehensive vision capabilities. Frequent travel within Napa County and occasional travel beyond are required, with reasonable accommodations available upon request.

Work Environment
The work environment includes both office and field settings, with noise levels ranging from quiet to moderate in office spaces and potentially moderate to loud at field sites due to equipment. Remote work locations must support professional video meetings with minimal distractions. The role requires frequent fieldwork in outdoor settings with uneven terrain and inclement weather, occasional evening and weekend work, travel to field sites, and occasional off-road driving.
