About the Charter School of Inquiry (CSI)

The Charter School of Inquiry (CSI) is a vibrant school community that is responding to the academic and social needs of students in grades K-6, primarily from Buffalo's Eastside. CSI is a unique community-based school that has emerged as a trusted institution for families in its Eastside neighborhood.

CSI unique key design elements include Rigorous, Academic Focus on Literacy, Inquiry-based Curriculum, Responsive Classroom (RC), Collaborative Team-teaching, Data-driven Instruction and Evidence of Performance, African and African American History and Culture, and Integrated Arts.

CSI offers a wide range of extra-curricular programs, field trips and in-school presentations, and offers a free extended-day program. The school-wide implementation of the Responsive Classroom approach and Restorative Justice practices has significantly reduced student suspension.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in an elementary or secondary educational environment.

• Minimum of two years of supervisory/leadership experience in an educational setting.

• New York State SBL or SDL certification.

• Proven experience collecting, analyzing, and utilizing data for instructional purposes.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Three professional references.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in an urban educational setting.

• Experience in a charter school setting.

• Knowledge of and passion for African and African American culture, heritage, and history.

• Knowledge of and experience with the Inquiry Learning Model.

• Experience with the Responsive Classroom Model and Restorative Justice practices.

• Experience using eSchool student data management system.

• Knowledge of charter school law and oversight requirements.

Performance Responsibilities

• Oversee a committee involving infusing the history, heritage and culture of people of African descent.

• Coach and evaluate professional and support staff assigned by the Head of School.

• Carry out disciplinary procedures consistent with the School's Code of Conduct and Responsive Classroom model.

• Work with Director of Instruction/Curriculum, Director of Special Education, and teachers to support high-quality learning.

• Carry out duties of DASA Coordinator, including NYS reporting.

• Assist with State Education Department reports as needed.

• Serve as a member of the Student Support Team.

• Provide feedback to teachers on weekly lesson plans

• Develop opportunities for teachers and teaching assistants to grow professionally.

• Develop high-quality professional development in coordination with other school leaders.

• Lead faculty meetings and professional development sessions as needed

• Other tasks as assigned by the Head of School

The Charter School of Inquiry promotes a collaborative model of leadership. The Assistant Principal reports directly to the Head of School and will work in collaboration with directors, coordinators, and teacher-leaders in the school community.
