Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Cardiac Stepdown Unit. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in providing care for patients recovering from cardiovascular procedures. This role requires the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of patient care.

Unit Overview

• Type: Cardiac Stepdown Unit
• Beds: 44 beds, including 8 semi-private rooms
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1 to 5
• Nurse Aide Support: 1 to 10

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care to patients recovering from cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgeries and procedures.
• Administer medications, including Cardizem, amiodarone, and various drips, ensuring adherence to protocols.
• Monitor vital signs and observe patients for changes in condition, recognizing complications as they arise.
• Read and interpret cardiac strips, ensuring timely interventions as needed.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including Hospitalists and Intensivists, to provide optimal patient care.
• Participate in patient admissions and discharges, managing high patient turnover effectively.

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Stepdown or acute care setting.
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips is essential.

Work Schedule

• Shifts: 6:45 AM and 6:45 PM.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
• Holidays: Flexible availability required for holidays and surrounding days.

Additional Information

• Orientation: 3 shifts specific to the unit.
• Floating may occur to the ICU, with preference given to those with ICU experience.
• Dress Code: Natural hair colors only, no artificial nails, and no visible tattoos or piercings.
• Preferred skills include the ability to remove pacer wires, with orientation available for those unfamiliar.
