Job Summary

The Assistant Café/Hospitality Manager supports the day-to-day operation of the café while extending that support into events, microkitchen management, and the supervision of hourly staff. This role is a hands-on partner to the Café Manager, stepping in to lead shifts, coordinate service, and keep both routine operations and special occasions running smoothly. It suits someone who is equally comfortable managing a busy service line and coordinating a client event, and who enjoys developing people along the way.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Daily Café Operations

 

• Support the Café Manager in overseeing daily café operations, including opening/closing procedures, service flow, food safety, and quality standards.

• Step in as manager-on-duty to lead shifts, resolve service issues in real time, and keep operations running smoothly in the Café Manager's absence.

• Monitor food quality, presentation, and portioning to ensure consistency with brand and client standards.

• Assist with inventory management, ordering, and vendor coordination to control cost and minimize waste.

• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations, and support audit readiness.

 

Events Support

 

• Partner with the events team to plan, staff, and execute catered functions, client meetings, and special occasions.

• Coordinate setup, service, and breakdown for events, ensuring presentation and service quality meet client expectations.

• Serve as an on-site point of contact during events, troubleshooting issues and adjusting staffing or logistics as needed.

 

Microkitchen Management

 

• Oversee stocking, freshness, and presentation standards across assigned microkitchen locations.

• Coordinate replenishment schedules and communicate supply needs to the broader operations team.

• Conduct regular walkthroughs to ensure microkitchens remain clean, organized, and fully stocked.

 

People Management

 

• Supervise, train, and coach hourly associates, providing day-to-day direction and performance feedback.

• Assist with scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage across the café, events, and microkitchen locations.

• Support onboarding of new team members and reinforce ongoing training on service standards and procedures.

• Help foster a positive, collaborative team culture and address routine employee relations matters, escalating as appropriate.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in food service, hospitality, or café management, including some supervisory experience.

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities across daily operations, events, and staff supervision.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work directly with clients and guests.

• Working knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards; ServSafe certification preferred.

• Comfortable working a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends as events require.

• Proficiency with basic scheduling, inventory, or POS systems.
