Usually an entry level position as the first step to learn a skill**Essential functions and responsibilities:*** Digging, spreading and leveling dirt, sand and gravel using a pick, shovel or rake.* Lift, carry and hold construction materials, tools and supplies.* Clean tools, equipment, materials and work area.* Mix, pour and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel and other materials using hand tools.* Join, wrap and seal sections of pipe.* Perform a variety of routine non-machine tasks such as removing forms, filling excavations, placing pipe sections in trench and assembling sections of pipe.* Perform a variety of machine tasks such as tapping soil, jack hammering and assisting in the fusing of pipe.**Requirements:*** Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.* Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.* Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.* Perform other duties as assigned.**Safety Policies and Practices**: The employee in this job must be knowledgeable about and follow the company’s safety policies and procedures as described in the company’s safety manual.**Education:** less than High School Diploma.**Experience:** three or more years related construction experience preferred.**Physical Activity Level:** Heavy physical activity performing strenuous day activities of a primarily productive/technical nature.**Manual Dexterity:** Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers.
