Summary Supervisory Wildland Firefighter (Engine Captain) position with US Wildland Fire Service, GW-0456-8, located in Worland, Wyoming. Major Duties Exercise supervisory authority over firefighters within a fire module or crew, directing assigned suppression operations. Perform administrative program management functions such as planning, budget execution, and stewardship of facilities, equipment, vehicles, and accountable property. Apply experienced understanding of firefighter safety, fire behavior, topography, weather, fuels, and training in fire management. Plan actions and direct utilization of fire line resources; recommend and implement tactical strategies in the field. Oversee development and implementation of training programs to comply with policy, regulations, and development. Procure, maintain, and inventory tools and equipment. Supervise and direct fuels‑management projects that include prescribed fire, mechanical, and biological treatments. Supervise and/or participate in fire‑prevention promotional events. Education There is no option to qualify for the 0456 series using education at this grade level. Requirements Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. Suitability for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation. Must pass a drug test and receive a negative result before appointment, with ongoing random testing. Must pass a pre‑employment medical examination and may be subject to post‑employment examinations to ensure fitness standards are maintained. Must pass the work‑capacity test for arduous positions. Must operate a government or private motor vehicle as part of official duties and maintain a valid state driver’s license. Individuals assigned male at birth after 12‑31‑59 must be registered for Selective Service. Must be 18 years of age or older and meet the maximum age requirement. May be required to work on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, or overtime. May be required to travel overnight away from home up to 15 nights per month, particularly during fire season. Must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes and may need to complete training to maintain travel and/or purchase authority. May be required to serve a one‑year probationary period during which fitness and continued employment are evaluated. Selectees who have not previously completed a supervisory probationary period will be required to serve a one‑year supervisory/managerial probationary period for this position. #J-18808-Ljbffr
