Staff Accountant

Job Description Apex Bank is seeking a qualified candidate for a Staff Accountant to join our team in Knoxville, Tennessee. As a premier community bank with branches statewide, we are looking for a dedicated professional to support our Finance Team and to grow their career with us. Primary Duties and Responsibilities General Ledger Management: Assist with maintaining and updating the general ledger by recording daily financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and ensuring accuracy in entries. Bank Reconciliations: Perform daily and monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly. Accounts Payable & Receivable: Assist in processing invoices and payments, ensuring accuracy in the posting of accounts payable and receivable transactions. Financial Reporting: Prepare and assist in the creation of financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for internal review and regulatory purposes. Regulatory Compliance: Help ensure that all accounting activities are compliant with banking regulations and internal policies. Loan Portfolio Accounting: Support the accounting team in tracking and maintaining records of the bank’s loan portfolio, including the reconciliation of loan balances. Audit Assistance: Provide support during internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to audit requests. Documentation & Filing: Maintain organized and detailed records of all financial transactions and ensure proper filing for easy retrieval. Team Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including lending, operations, and compliance, to gather information and provide accounting support where necessary. Required Job Skills and Experience Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent coursework/experience. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage). Familiarity with banking systems and financial reporting tools is a plus. Attention to Detail: Strong ability to maintain accuracy in a high-volume environment. Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze financial data and identify trends or discrepancies. Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly present information to team members and management. Problem‑Solving: Ability to think critically and resolve financial discrepancies. Preferred Qualifications Internship/Work Experience: Previous experience or internship in a financial institution or accounting role is preferred but not required. Familiarity with Banking Regulations: Knowledge of community banking regulations, including GAAP, FDIC reporting requirements, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
