Job Summary And Qualifications Position Summary: The Supervisor will lead daily operations, staff & program development, continuous quality monitoring and improvement efforts and professional initiatives. This individual will assist the department Manager/Director in their absence and assist with other duties as assigned by the Manager/Director. II. Position Requirements Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current Colorado State Respiratory License Registered (RRT) Current AHA or ARC BLS Current PALS Current AHA or ARC ACLS Current NRP Membership in professional organization (AARC, NBRC) preferred Education: Graduate of an American Medical Association approved Respiratory Therapy Program. BS preferred. Experience: At least 5 years as a staff RRT; previous leadership experience of 1-3 years. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Works cooperatively with the entire healthcare team and demonstrates advanced leadership skills. Possesses strong sense of Hospital direction and inspires confidence in others that direction is right. Sets aggressive team goals that challenge others and achieves superior performance results. Supervises and directs treatment by department staff. Accepts responsibility for the knowledge of the actions of all team members. Participates in and develops performance improvement initiatives at the hospital and department level and other educational activities that help improve the goals and standards of care. Recognizes behavior or attitudes that interfere with effective team performance and initiates measures to resolve conflicts that disrupt high quality patient care. Provides technical and administrative supervision to coordinators, respiratory therapists, and ancillary personnel Prepares work schedules, assigns and rotates employees to appropriate shifts. Manages attendance and call-outs and takes appropriate measures to assure adequate staffing levels. Determines staff training needs and performs or arranges individual or group in-service instruction, reporting significant staff deficiencies to the Director of Respiratory Therapy, and participates in the planning and implementation of department wide respiratory therapy training programs and competency assessment. Appropriately manages supply inventory in collaborating with Respiratory Coordinators, in accordance with contracts and fiscal responsibility. Ensures equipment is properly maintained by BioMed and holds staff/Coordinators accountable for tagging/placing tickets. Evaluates new supplies and equipment and reports on findings, including purchase price and maintenance cost factors. Projects requirements for equipment and supplies and recommends and justifies such items for inclusion in the annual budget request. Routinely supervises staff performance on shift to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of Respiratory Therapy services, consulting with nursing and medical personnel as may be required to coordinate patient care services and coaching/assisting staff as indicated. Contributes to and organizes monthly 1:1 rounding schedule with all staff and ensures 100% completion in required tool. Performs and appropriately delegates chart audits to assure compliance with physicians’ orders and documentation completed. Ensures audits are entered electronically and results are posted/shared with team. Responsible for the creation and implantation of processes, guidelines and education with all respiratory care expansions of service. On a rotating basis, assumes administrative on call duties as delegated by the Director of Respiratory Services. Implements emergency and disaster plans as determined by Incident Command/Emergency Preparedness Team. Sets clear expectations for staff by developing job specific customer service expectations and behaviors for each position supervised; clearly communicates expectations to each employee and establishes the expectations as job requirements and performance appraisal components. Conducts all performance evaluations on time, working with each employee at least annually to set specific skill and performance goals. Performs all duties assigned to Sr. Respiratory Therapists on staffing shifts. Is able to staff the Pulmonary Function Lab as needed. Evaluates and treats patients referred for services by a licensed physician or dentist according to the Colorado Law and Medicare/Joint Commission regulations. Communicates effectively in writing and verbally with patients, families, physicians and other hospital personnel. Practices safety measures in all patients care duties. Accurately and completely documents evaluation findings, treatment planning, goals, education of patients/ families, discharge planning. Patients may include individuals of ages from pediatric, adolescent and adult to geriatric. Adjusts assessment and treatment based upon the age of the patient. Identifies the educational needs of the patient/family, determines the appropriate interventions, promotes patient participation and establishes realistic outcomes that are re-evaluated on an ongoing basis. Administers treatment modalities and procedures in a safe and effective manner, based on the physician’s prescription and the respiratory therapist professional judgment in an accurate, safe and timely manner. Accepts responsibility for formulation of the plan of care according to identified patient problems as needed, accepts accountability for the implementation of the plan of care by appropriately and effectively communicating with team members. Adheres to Infection Control/Standard Precautions while performing all duties. Demonstrates proficiency and working knowledge of all department equipment. Adheres to policies and procedures regarding patient rights. Follows all Hospital and Department Policies and Procedures. Maintains good attendance, as well as displays professional conduct and dress at all times. Demonstrates understanding of Hospital and Department safety and emergency procedures. Demonstrates competency for all standards on the performance appraisal. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for all patients. Each service area may require specialized skills and/or serve specific age categories, which may include neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Treatment is provided in compliance with the Hospital, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals and Medicare guidelines and regulations. Other duties as assigned.
