Paralegal Specialist Trainee

Position Paralegal Specialist Trainee – DMV Legal Services Division, Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles. Full‑time, 40 hours per week. Monday‑Friday: either 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. or 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Hybrid work opportunity. Location: Wethersfield, CT. Responsibilities Handle Freedom of Information requests for the DMV. Assist legal personnel with litigated matters. Perform other duties as assigned. Provide legal research, drafting legislation and advisory opinions, and other legal documents. Reproduce legal documents and exhibits, maintain records of cases and related documents. Prepare legal and administrative reports. Interview witnesses and clients when necessary. Answer routine correspondence and telephone inquiries. Review cases and petitions for procedural compliance with agency hearing rules. Knowledge, Skill and Ability Knowledge: basic legal processes, terminology, forms, research techniques, office management principles, statutes, regulations. Skills: interpersonal, oral and written communication, computer software usage. Abilities: read, understand and interpret laws and legal documents; manage competing priorities while meeting deadlines; handle confidential information. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in legal studies. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a law firm or organization law department. Experience gathering documents for Freedom of Information requests. Experience working independently and in a team environment. Experience gathering legal documents on litigated cases. Experience handling and maintaining confidential information. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
