Associate IT Analyst
Seattle Pacific University
Associate IT Analyst
Seattle Pacific University is a Christian institution committed to graduating people of competence and character, becoming people of wisdom, and modeling grace-filled community.
Information Technology supports this mission by delivering secure, reliable, and forward-looking technology that enables students, faculty, and staff to do their best work. SPU IT values impact over activity, clarity over complexity, and principles over rigid processes, fostering a culture of service, ownership, transparency, continuous improvement, and thoughtful innovation grounded in stewardship.
What We Need
The Associate IT Analyst is an on-campus individual-contributor role that supports one or more technical domains that enable end-user computing, learning environments, and institutional operations. This role blends strong technical aptitude, operational discipline, and collaboration to help ensure technology services are reliable, secure, well-documented, and aligned with university priorities. Associate IT Analysts contribute to platform administration, troubleshooting, documentation, and continuous improvement—working independently on routine and moderately complex work, and partnering with senior staff on higher-impact or ambiguous challenges.
Associate IT Analysts bring sound judgment, curiosity, and a service-oriented mindset to their work. They contribute to outcomes through technical skill, clear communication, and dependable follow-through. They grow capability through documentation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement, and they seek guidance appropriately when risk, scope, or ambiguity increases. The ideal candidate thinks systemically, communicates with clarity, anticipates needs, and delivers practical results that support the university's academic and administrative missions.
What You'll Do
Technical Support & Domain Support
- Serve as an escalation point for complex or high-impact technical issues within one or more assigned technical domains, following established procedures and partnering with senior staff as needed.
- Support the health, reliability, and lifecycle activities of systems and platforms within areas of specialization, including inventory, maintenance, and planned refresh work.
- Assist with root-cause analysis, recommend practical solutions, and help reduce recurring issues through standardization and automation.
Platform Administration, Security & Lifecycle Management
- Administer and support enterprise platforms, tools, and services aligned to assigned areas of specialization.
- Ensure systems are configured securely, patched appropriately, documented clearly, and managed consistently throughout their lifecycle.
- Partner with infrastructure and security teams to embed security and privacy principles into daily operations.
Documentation, Standards & Knowledge Management
- Create, maintain, and improve technical documentation, standards, and operating procedures.
- Enable consistent execution by others through clear guidance, repeatable processes, and accessible knowledge resources.
- Reduce reliance on individual knowledge by promoting shared understanding and well-documented practices.
Knowledge Sharing, Training & Enablement
- Provide guidance and collaborate with Help Desk, Tier 1, and Tier 2 staff through mentoring, troubleshooting support, and informal leadership as appropriate for experience level.
- Contribute to training materials and participate in knowledge-sharing sessions to improve team capability and confidence.
- Help improve outcomes by enabling others through clear documentation, knowledge sharing, and consistent practices—not by being the sole resolver.
Continuous Improvement & Stakeholder Partnership
- Identify opportunities to improve reliability, security, user experience, and operational efficiency.
- Evaluate tools, technologies, and approaches for fit within a higher-education environment, balancing innovation with stewardship.
- Contribute technical input to the Director of User Services and campus stakeholders by providing context, options, and recommendations, and escalating risks or decisions when appropriate.
Matrix-Style Assignments
- Perform other related duties as assigned based on team needs and individual strengths.
- Collaborate across technical domains to support shared outcomes and institutional priorities.
Rotational Operational Support & Incident Triage
- Participate in SPU IT's rotational operational support model.
- Serve periodically as an operational triage coordinator ("quarterback"), triaging incoming issues, coordinating ownership, and maintaining clear communication with stakeholders under established guidance.
- Emphasize judgment, coordination, and service rather than sole issue resolution.
What You Bring
Technical Expertise & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency or working knowledge in one or more of the following technical areas of specialization:
- Endpoint Management & Client Computing (e.g., Windows/macOS administration, MDM, configuration management, patching, compliance, device lifecycle)
- AV, Classroom, and Learning Space Technologies (e.g., instructional AV systems, control systems, classroom support, learning space lifecycle planning)

- User-Facing Enterprise Platforms supporting end-user productivity, collaboration, or instruction
- Experience supporting and administering systems in a professional or enterprise environment.
- Experience supporting systems within one or more technical domains and contributing to reliable, repeatable operations through documentation and process improvement.
Professional Competencies & Ways of Working
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and build trust through credibility, responsiveness, and teamwork.
- Develops contextual awareness of university operations and enterprise-level priorities.
- Identifies and recommends fit-for-purpose, maintainable, and scalable solutions.
- Thinks strategically while executing pragmatically.
- Communicates clearly and effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Operates with strong ownership, accountability, and service orientation.
- Demonstrates sound judgment and the ability to navigate ambiguity with confidence.
