Position Police Officer Job Number: 25-240 Job Type: Full-Time Regular Department: Gila River Police Department City: Sacaton, AZ Location: 639 W. Seed Farm Road Compensation DOE – $33.03 hourly (Recruit) to $39.63 hourly (Lateral) Class Overview Police Officers serve as first responders to any public safety incident, and are expected to provide courteous, professional, and competent law enforcement services to the Gila River Indian Community. Police Officers respond as initial investigators in allegations of criminal activity within the exterior boundaries of the Gila River Indian Community and are responsible for prompt and proper preliminary investigations of incidents, enforcing Federal, State and Tribal laws and ordinances. Police Officers perform various law enforcement functions and duties in accordance with crime prevention and protection of life and property. Essential Functions Respond as dispatched to calls involving traffic accidents, crimes, and may include emergency situations and provide rescue and first aid assistance as needed. Maintain continual law enforcement and crime prevention within the exterior boundaries of the Gila River Indian Community, assigned to a shift in a motorized vehicle or on foot. Visit residences and businesses to establish rapport, gain knowledge of businesses and recognize quality of life issues. Conduct investigations of all crimes including sexual assaults, robbery, child abuse, burglary, and auto theft; issue warnings, citations, or make arrests and transport prisoners when warranted; handle civil matters such as trespassing. Communicate effectively over law‑enforcement radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications. Operate a variety of law‑enforcement tools and equipment such as police radio, baton, handcuffs, handgun, and other firearms as required. Physically restrain and/or subdue combative individuals using physical force to gain compliance; make entrance through barriers; draw and fire a duty weapon; administer first aid. Prepare a variety of reports including criminal offense, accident, non‑criminal incident, search warrants, etc. Secure and execute search warrants appropriate to crime scene and maintain proper chain of evidence; coordinate processing of all evidence with the appropriate criminal laboratory. Prepare cases for prosecution and appear as a witness in cases before Federal, State, County or Tribal Courts for prosecution of violations of laws or regulations on Indian land or involving Native Americans or government property. Perform undercover assignments and surveillance operations for all criminal activities requiring covert investigations. Respond to citizen and visitor questions or requests for assistance and perform other activities in support of the Community. Assist and cooperate with other law‑enforcement and public safety agencies. Required Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Knowledge of Federal and State statutes, codes and ordinances to be enforced. Knowledge of equipment used in law‑enforcement, including weapons and onboard vehicle terminals. Ability to understand and interpret complex federal, state statutes, tribal laws, ordinances, regulations and to enforce appropriately. Ability to exercise good judgment and multitask during dynamic situations. Ability to analyze problems quickly and make accurate decisive decisions while under stressful environmental situations and conditions. Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and tact. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, Community Officials and the public. Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a drug‑free workplace. Required Experience and Training High School diploma or GED is required. Possess and maintain Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) Certification or successfully attend and complete an authorized Police Academy as a condition of employment. Additional Requirements Must be a United States Citizen and at least 21 years of age, or turn 21 years of age before graduation from a police academy. No felonies or any of two or more misdemeanor offenses under federal, state, or tribal law involving crimes of violence, sexual assault, molestation, exploitation, contact or prostitution, crimes against persons, or offenses against children. No convictions of a felony or any offense that would be considered a felony if committed in Arizona, including offenses involving domestic violence. Pass extensive pre‑employment testing: physical aptitude written test, interview review board, polygraph, psychological assessment, medical examination, background investigation, fingerprint clearance, and drug screen. Possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License with less than three traffic violations (civil or misdemeanor offense) within the last 39 months. Not have been dishonorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces. Not have illegally possessed or used marijuana for any purpose within the past three years. Clear Federal Regulated Adjudication 25 Code of Federal Regulations §§ 63, Executive Order (E.O) 12968, the Gun Control Act of 1968, the Crime Control Act of 1990, and Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements; background clearance every five years. Required mandatory reporter pursuant to Title 7, Chapter 2 (7.205), B. Required to attend Title 7 Mandatory Reporting training annually. Required to obtain a Tribal Operator’s permit. Valid state driver’s license with a current proof of driving record for the past 39 months must be submitted and not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission. Position Details Reports to Chief of Police or designee. Non‑Supervisory, Hourly Position.
