Employment Information Employment Type: Part time Shift: Evening Responsibilities Provide and promote a safe and secure environment for all persons on hospital premises. Patrol hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism. Secure, unlock, and protect hospital buildings. Respond to security and safety needs of hospital personnel. Act as a member of the First Response Team, responding quickly and effectively to emergency and non‑emergent situations. Provide visitor/employee screening services at various posts using electronic monitoring and physical surveillance methods, ensuring only authorized personnel are admitted. Direct and assist emergency responders and perform specialized tasks during emergencies. Assist employees, patients, and visitors with information, directions, and physical support when necessary. Escort visitors, patients, and staff to and from parking areas or within the buildings. Assist motorists with vehicle problems. Investigate incidents of an unusual nature as reported by hospital personnel, visitors, physicians, or patients; report incidents through written reports and complete all required documentation. Consistently patrol buildings and grounds, inspecting doors, windows, surfaces, lighting, etc., and report hazardous conditions to the appropriate department for corrective action. Assist in the management of unusual conditions or malfunctions involving building mechanical systems. Respond to emergency calls to control disorderly conduct or combative patients; may assist medical staff with patient restraints or notify local police as necessary. Operate and understand the function of all equipment within the Security Control Center, including two‑way portable radios, closed‑circuit monitors, and fire and security monitoring systems. Maintain competency through successful completion of department‑specific training and continuing education. Support organizational, division, and unit strategic goals, and participate in departmental improvement projects. Enforce all hospital policies and procedures as identified by administrative and department policies. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent (Associate’s degree in a related field preferred). Valid State of Michigan driver’s license. Successful completion of department‑specific new hire training within the first six months. Current certification in Heart Saver. Ability to read, write, prepare reports, logs, and conduct investigations. Analytical skills to interpret diverse instructions and data. Strong written and oral communication skills to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public. Physical stamina to stand and walk approximately 70% of the work time, lift and restrain individuals of all sizes, and perform tasks such as climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and operating equipment. Agility and speed to respond quickly to emergencies. Excellent customer service orientation to interact effectively with hospital personnel, outside customers, and community groups. Minimum of one year of related experience in law enforcement or military; health‑care security experience preferred. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Working Conditions Work is performed both indoors and outdoors on campus, with exposure to all weather conditions. The role requires standing, walking, and sitting, with standing and walking constituting about 70% of the time. Employees may encounter hostile or unruly patients, staff, or visitors. Duties may involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials, radioactive material, medical waste, and chemical hazardous waste.
