Buyer II

The Business Services Directorate (BSD) supports Brookhaven National Laboratory's research initiatives through various business service functions. The Procurement and Property Management (PPM) Division provides purchasing services, materials, equipment, and supplies for Brookhaven operations. PPM is hiring a Buyer II. The position reports to the Rapid Purchasing Supervisor or a Subcontracts Manager and is responsible for coordinating the procurement workflow from requisition to delivery, and assisting with contract documentation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Work under indirect supervision within established procedures and guidelines. Provide procurement expertise and leadership to meet technical, schedule, and budget requirements. Prepare and present reports on procurement activities, including source and price justification. Document procurement files and perform contract administration. Support and adhere to the requirements of procurement's small business and socio‑economic plan. Process low to medium risk and dollar procurements with a signature authority potentially up to $100,000. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities BS/BA degree in a business field. Zero to Two (0‑2) years of direct procurement experience. Advanced understanding of procurement business discipline and ability to track, organize, and analyze procurement information. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive working relationships at all levels. Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines under pressure. Clear and concise verbal and written communication. Effective time and resource management, organization, planning, and prioritizing. Solid research, analytical, creative problem‑solving, sound judgment, and decision‑making skills. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Information Technology acquisition experience, including software and service agreements. Experience with FAR and/or DEAR. Certified Procurement Professional or similar certification. Experience with Oracle PeopleSoft. Environmental, Health & Safety Requirements Ability to work at a computer/keyboard for extended periods. Ability to concentrate on accuracy. Other Information Fully onsite position located in Upton, New York. Visa sponsorship is not available. Brookhaven Laboratory offers a salary range of $68,600 to $99,450 per year.
