Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position
Department of Biology - TAMU
The Department of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University (TAMU) invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions, one in Neurodegeneration Biology and the other in Cancer Biology . These are 9-month appointments with an anticipated start date of Fall 2027.
As part of a major departmental expansion aligned with our 2020–2029 Strategic Plan, this search aims to strengthen research excellence in two strategic areas. In neurodegeneration biology, we seek candidates investigating fundamental biological mechanisms relevant to aging, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or related areas. In cancer biology, we seek candidates investigating the biological principles and cellular mechanisms underlying cancer initiation, progression, dissemination, adaptation, and other cancer-related areas. Research programs may connect with core areas of departmental strength, including microbiology and biological resilience, synthetic biology, evolution, neuroscience, and biological clocks. We are especially interested in candidates who use mechanistic, interdisciplinary, collaborative, and innovative approaches to address compelling questions in the biological sciences. Participation in Texas research networks supporting cancer and neurodegenerative research, including the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), is strongly encouraged.
Successful applicants are expected to develop and sustain an externally funded research program, contribute to undergraduate and graduate education, and engage in departmental and university service. We welcome applicants whose research spans disciplinary boundaries and advances the understanding of fundamental biological processes, including programs whose discoveries may ultimately inform biomedical, environmental, or translational applications.
Texas A&M’s research enterprise is internationally recognized for excellence across the life sciences. The Department of Biology ( provides a collegial and collaborative research environment that supports large undergraduate and graduate programs and promotes integration of students into active research. Faculty benefit from access to world-class research and teaching infrastructure, competitive startup packages, and participation in several interdisciplinary doctoral programs, including Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Genetics, and Neuroscience. The department also houses the Center for Biological Clocks Research, which supports research in circadian biology and sleep.
In support of growth in the biological sciences, major remodeling of teaching space is underway, and architectural design for a new Biology building is in progress to add significant research space for our faculty.
