Position Description The firm is seeking a current law student for a part‑time, paid Law Clerk position. The Law Clerk will support the firm’s immigration and civil rights matters while receiving training, mentorship, and practical experience under the supervision of the firm’s managing attorney. The position will involve substantive legal research, writing, factual development, case preparation, administrative support, and other work that advances client matters and firm operations. Assignments will be matched to the student’s experience and performed with appropriate supervision and review. Responsibilities Research federal immigration statutes, regulations, agency guidance, and relevant case law. Research constitutional and civil rights issues as assigned. Prepare research memoranda, legal analyses, and internal case assessments. Assist with drafting motions, briefs, declarations, correspondence, and agency submissions under attorney supervision. Review records and prepare factual chronologies, case summaries, and issue outlines. Conduct country‑conditions and other supporting factual research. Assist with organizing evidence, maintaining case files, and identifying gaps in the factual record. Help prepare interview outlines, document requests, filing checklists, and case‑preparation materials. Assist with preparing applications, petitions, motions, and supporting submissions for attorney review. Participate in supervised client meetings and witness interviews when appropriate. Communicate with clients, agencies, opposing counsel, experts, translators, and other third parties as authorized. Assist with case tracking, deadlines, intake, and other administrative tasks related to client matters. Observe or participate in hearings, consultations, and case‑strategy discussions when available. Attend regular supervision meetings and incorporate feedback into written and substantive work. Maintain accurate time records and complete any documentation required by the firm or the student’s law school. Protect privileged, confidential, and sensitive client information. Training and Professional Development The Law Clerk will receive: Direct supervision and training from a licensed attorney. Regular review and feedback on research, writing, and case‑related work. Exposure to immigration procedure, client counseling, case development, litigation, and law‑firm practice. Opportunities to discuss professional responsibility, trauma‑informed representation, and working effectively across languages and cultures. Assignments tailored, when practicable, to the student’s academic and professional interests. Practical experience supporting active client matters and the day‑to‑day operations of a small law firm. Qualifications Currently enrolled and in good standing at an accredited law school. Strong legal research, analysis, and writing skills. Careful attention to detail and ability to follow instructions. Professional judgment and commitment to confidentiality. Interest in immigration, civil rights, public‑interest advocacy, or litigation. Ability to communicate respectfully with clients from diverse backgrounds. Portuguese or Spanish proficiency is helpful but not required. Ability to commit approximately 10–15 hours per week during the academic semester. Eligibility to receive academic credit through the student’s law school is helpful but not required. Location and Schedule This is a hybrid position based in Framingham, Massachusetts. Remote work may be considered. The position requires approximately 10–15 hours per week during the academic semester. The schedule will be arranged around the student’s academic obligations. Some in‑office availability is preferred. Compensation and Academic Credit This is a paid, part‑time position. Compensation will be provided through the firm’s regular payroll process and will be discussed with candidates during the interview process. Academic credit may be available if approved by the student’s law school, but academic credit is not required for employment. The firm will cooperate with reasonable supervision, evaluation, and reporting requirements associated with an approved academic‑credit program. Role Limitations The Law Clerk will work under attorney supervision and may not independently provide legal advice, establish an attorney‑client relationship, determine case strategy, sign legal submissions, or represent clients before a court or agency. Any student‑practice activity must receive separate approval and comply with all applicable certification, court, agency, and supervision requirements.
