Description Spring/Summer New Grads – The New Graduate Nurse Program supports the transition from academia to practice. The program is a twelve‑month residency that begins in May or August 2026, with start dates aligned to graduation and NCLEX dates. Program Overview: The program provides structured clinical and professional growth. Participants attend classroom sessions focused on clinical skills and unit issues, complete continuing education and a group evidence‑based practice project, and complete unit‑defined milestones. Check‑ins with unit leadership and educator occur regularly. Program Goals: Increase proficiency – from novice to competent nurse Promote evidence‑based practice at the bedside to ensure best patient outcomes Develop clinical leadership skills at the point of care Location and Unit 5 East – Acute Care Oncology, a 31‑bed Medical/Oncology Unit. Nurses are certified in Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy and hold professional oncology or general medicine certifications. Responsibilities Education – Identify learning needs, attend education programs, use patient education materials, and assess readiness to learn. Evaluation of Care – Identify expected outcomes, refine care plans, participate in interdisciplinary discussions, and communicate information to promote continuity of care. Implementation – Demonstrate competence in caring for complex patients, perform bedside testing, follow nursing standards and policies, prioritize care, and consult resources for complex or high‑risk patients. Leadership – Develop professional growth goals, participate in unit goals and quality improvement, use communication systems effectively, and promote a safe, clean, and secure environment. Patient Assessment – Recognize data from complex scenarios, prioritize care, and develop relationships with families to support patient and family advocacy. Planning – Collaborate with patients/families on care plans, use multidisciplinary resources, address cultural and ethnic issues, and prioritize tasks for complex patients. Research – Read relevant journals, bring practical ideas and questions to staff for applicability assessment. Qualifications Education Requirements Graduation from a school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a Master’s degree in Nursing within seven years of employment date. Licensure/Certification Requirements Registered Nurse license in North Carolina by day of clinical care. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Professional Experience Requirements No prior experience required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Clinical knowledge and skills applicable to a 31‑bed oncology unit. Ability to apply evidence‑based practice and to develop and lead quality improvement initiatives. Strong communication skills, including the ability to educate patients, families, and staff. Cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse patient populations. Professionalism and commitment to continuous learning.
