Overview

The Public Safety Communications Center (PSCC) Dispatcher serves as a critical link between emergency responders, security personnel, fire services, law enforcement, and NASA operations. As the first point of contact for emergency and non-emergency communications, the Dispatcher is responsible for receiving, processing, prioritizing, and coordinating responses to incidents affecting personnel, facilities, and mission-critical assets at Kennedy Space Center. 

Responsibilities

• Answer and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service in a professional, timely, and efficient manner. 
• Evaluate incoming information, assess priorities, and dispatch appropriate law enforcement, fire, emergency medical, security, or other emergency response personnel. 
• Monitor incidents and maintain continuous communication with responders to ensure accurate information sharing and coordination. 
• Coordinate emergency response activities during routine operations, critical incidents, security events, natural disasters, and contingency situations. 
• Maintain situational awareness of ongoing activities affecting the security and safety of personnel, property, and facilities. 
• Accurately document, track, and update incidents using the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. 
• Maintain complete and chronological records of incident activities, actions taken, and communications received or transmitted. 
• Prepare reports, logs, and documentation in accordance with departmental procedures and regulatory requirements. 
• Ensure all records are accurate, complete, and maintained in compliance with applicable policies and standards. 
• Operate and monitor:  
  • Emergency 911 and administrative telephone systems 
  • Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems 
  • Two-way radio communications systems 
  • Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems 
  • Fire and security alarm monitoring systems 
  • Emergency warning and notification systems 
  • Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) systems 
  • Driver and Vehicle Information Database (DAVID) 
  • Incident management and security monitoring platforms 
• Identify and communicate security, safety, or operational concerns requiring immediate action. 
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

• High School Diploma or GED required. 
• Must meet and maintain applicable requirements of:  
• NFPA 1061, Professional Qualifications for Public Safety Telecommunications Personnel 
• NFPA 1221 standards related to emergency communications operations 
• Must obtain and maintain certifications for:  
  • Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC) 
  • National Crime Information Center (NCIC) 
  • Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) 
  • Driver and Vehicle Information Database (DAVID) 
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) 
  • FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) courses as required 
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance. 
• Successfully pass background and drug screening

Preferred Qualifications:

• One (1) year or more of public safety dispatch, emergency communications center, 911 call center, military dispatch, security dispatch, or related experience. 
• Experience operating CAD, alarm monitoring, radio communications, CCTV systems, or emergency notification platforms. 
• Experience working in a law enforcement, fire service, emergency management, military, government, or security environment. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of public safety communications principles, dispatch procedures, and emergency response protocols. 
• Familiarity with Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), radio communications systems, security monitoring technologies, and emergency notification systems. 
• Understanding of incident command principles and emergency management procedures. 
• Knowledge of records management and documentation requirements. 
• Ability to remain calm, focused, and decisive during emergencies and high-stress situations. 
• Ability to multitask efficiently while managing multiple incidents, communications channels, and system alerts simultaneously. 
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. 
• Ability to assess information quickly and prioritize responses appropriately.
