The Opportunity An established structural and miscellaneous steel contractor in the New York market is looking to add an experienced Estimator to its commercial team. The business has built a strong reputation delivering technically demanding steel packages across NYC, including projects where complex logistics, sequencing and constructability play a major part in winning and successfully delivering the work. With a healthy pipeline, continued growth and several long-term succession opportunities developing within the business, this is more than simply another estimating position. They’re looking for someone who understands the NYC steel market, can price work accurately and commercially, and wants the opportunity to become an increasingly influential part of the business. For the right person, there is genuine scope to grow into a senior commercial/estimating position as the company continues to develop. Estimate structural and miscellaneous steel packages across the NYC market. Review drawings, specifications and bid documentation to establish project scope. Complete detailed take-offs and build pricing across material, fabrication, coatings, freight and erection. Obtain and analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations. Assess labour, constructability, logistics and shop/field requirements. Prepare competitive bid proposals, budgets and detailed cost breakdowns. Participate in bid reviews and commercial strategy discussions. Support project handover following successful awards. What They’re Looking For 5+ years of structural and/or miscellaneous steel estimating experience. Strong knowledge of the New York construction market. Established relationships within the NYC GC/CM community. Strong Bluebeam and Excel capability. Excellent understanding of drawings, specifications and steel construction. Demonstrable track record of successfully pricing and securing steel packages. Commercially minded, accurate and confident communicating with clients, vendors and internal teams.
