Senior Shipping & Receiving Clerk, Property Control for the performance of clerical and manual activities at the NY State College of Ceramics and Alfred University shipping, receiving, and property control. Coordinates distribution of a volume of goods, materials, and equipment. Initiates and maintains all facets of the equipment inventory (SUNY Property Control System and State Fixed Asset Accounting System). This position has been evaluated for compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and is subject to premium pay for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a payroll week.

Compensation:  $20.23 - $21.40 per hour, non-exempt 40 hours per week

Essential Functions

• This position has no supervisor authority over Shipping & Receiving Clerk
• With or without reasonable accommodations the incumbent must be able to read and write and speak the English language at a college level, be capable of performing sometimes complex mathematical calculations, statistical calculations and other higher mathematical operations, must be able to communicate with all levels of the institution in written and spoken form. The individual must be able to work independently. The ability to maintain regular and prompt attendance is essential to the successful performance of this position.

Other Duties & Responsibilites

• Receives, examines, and documents incoming freight and parcels; reconciles with purchasing and shipping records according to established procedures.
• Arranges for outgoing freight and returns of damages or misdirected freight; handles freight claims for damaged or shorted goods.
• Prepared numeric and narrative, oral and written reports and various control documents.
• Maintains a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment andsupplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment.
• Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
• Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
• Supports and assists in creating intersections and pathways for faculty, staff, and students that will assist in transforming people’s lives.
• Supports and assists in creating an evolving culture of connection, mentoring and rich engagement opportunities for faculty, staff, and students.

Property Control

• Reviews incoming shipments for equipment items, according to established NY State and Alfred Universityprocedures.
• Tags equipment, compiles and enters data to PCS; edits reports.
• Follows up on outstanding items (Incoming Asset Log, purchase orders, trade-ins, and repairs).
• Makes changes to the database as necessary to maintain accurate and up-to-date records (location changes,transfers, changes in condition, etc.).
• Maintains records as necessary in compliance with State Fixed Asset Accounting System (SFAAS); conducts biannual inspection.
• Processes surplus items as warranted and according to established procedures.
• Conducts inventory of NY State College of Ceramics equipment using bar-code scanner or equivalent:
  • Collects information on equipment that is not tagged.
  • Reconciles inventory records with master equipment list; resolved discrepancies.
  • Works with department faculty, technical specialists, and graduate students to locate all equipmentitems.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of shipping/receiving operations, freight, and postal regulations. Attention to detail and ability to follow through on multiple projects necessary. Accuracy, dependability, familiarity with scientific (engineering) equipment, experience with computers/data entry, computerized database systems.
• Fork truck certification is required.

successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable
individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Personal Protective Equipment must be worn when required. A respiratory function test and the ability to use respirators may be required. Stairs and uneven surfaces may be present; artificial lifts, etc. may or may not be available. The position may require the incumbent to walk outdoors in all types of weather to other buildings or offices located on the campus. The Campus is located in an area that contains numerous hills and slopes and may not always be fully accessible for mobility impaired individuals.
