Senior Technical Writer

Senior Technical Writer at Intuitive Surgical responsible for developing and maintaining Field Service documentation for medical device systems. Role combines independent technical writing with leadership responsibilities including establishing documentation standards, mentoring junior writers, and driving process improvements. On-campus position requiring minimum three days per week in office and laboratory environments.

Responsibilities

• Plan, write, edit, and maintain Field Service procedures and documentation for medical device systems
• Independently investigate technical requirements through systems review, lab demonstrations, and engineering consultation
• Establish and maintain documentation standards, style guidelines, templates, and best practices for the team
• Mentor and coach junior writers and contractors with technical feedback and documentation review
• Collaborate across product, engineering, training, and field service teams to ensure documentation alignment

Requirements

• 7+ years technical writing experience for complex hardware and medical device products
• Demonstrated ability to independently learn mechanical systems through lab and field investigation
• Expert-level proficiency with DITA XML tools such as Oxygen XML Editor
• Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, or related field
• Proficiency with Adobe tools including Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
• Medical device industry experience required; field service documentation experience preferred
• Strong project management skills and ability to mentor team members
