School Bus DriverMinimum Salary: $27.48 per hour/Days: 178Primary Purpose: Ensure safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned route. Safely operate and transport students and other authorized persons safely and efficiently to and from designated locations.Qualifications:Must have a safe driving recordMust be 20 years of age or olderMust have a high school diploma or GEDAbility to read, write, and communicate effectively in EnglishEducation/Certification:Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements or ability to obtain one within six weeks of employmentSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Ability to pass U.S. D.O.T physical exam and drug testsAbility to complete required bus driver safety trainingAbility to respond in emergency situationsAbility to understand and follow written and verbal instructionsAbility to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipmentAbility to manage student behaviorAbility to work well with children with disabilitiesAbility to work as a team with the monitorProficient map reading skillsExperience:NoneMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Vehicle Operation:1. Drive bus daily following assigned route and adhere to established schedules.2. Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities.3. Anticipate problems such as traffic, weather, road conditions, and schedule changes and make necessary adjustments to ensure student safety and reduce delays.4. Perform pre and post trip inspections according to specifications to ensure bus can be operated safely and notify shop of issues or needed repairs. Keep assigned bus clean and maintain appropriate level of fuel.5. Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical problems, and complete required corresponding reports.Student Management:6. Instruct students on safe entering, exiting, and passenger rules and regulations. Supervise students while they board and leave the bus and cross the street.7. Maintain discipline and use effective behavior management tools for student discipline problems. Immediately report problems to transportation utilizing the Student Conduct/Safety Report. Ensure all reports are accurate and received in a timely manner.Safety:8. Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.9. Operate equipment according to established safety procedures. Make sure that all safety equipment is used correctly i.e. seat belts, harnesses, and help students use safety devices when needed.10. Ensure emergency equipment such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, and reflectors are in good condition and proper working order.11. Follow emergency procedures including evacuation of students as needed and administering first aid, if necessary.12. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor. Report any hazardous conditions along scheduled route.13. Maintain all driver compliance certifications, renewing at least two months in advance.Other:14. Operate and monitor two-way radio equipment to communicate with the transportation office and other drivers.15. Complete and maintain accurate, up-to-date, and timely records and reports including but not limited to those related to bus mileage, gas, and number of passengers transported.16. Attend monthly Safety Meeting.17. Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
