Job Description

We are seeking a Birth Registrar to join our Labor and Delivery team! The Birth Registrar identifies and generates reports for all patients who have delivered newborns the previous day. Maintain an in-depth knowledge of Massachusetts state-mandated rules and regulations governing the preparation of birth certificates and paternity acknowledgments. Utilize independent judgment in daily decision-making practices. Demonstrates the capacity to provide empathy and to use tact in different interpersonal situations. Prioritize the daily operation of the Birth Registration department in order to provide optimal, timely services to our customers. Give attention to detail and is able to manipulate daily tasks utilizing computer equipment.

This is an on-site, part-time opportunity working 24 hours per week on a consistent weekday schedule of Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Birth Registrar plays a visible, people-focused role, guiding patients through required forms and processes while partnering closely with internal teams to support smooth daily operations. Essential Responsibilities

• Identifies patients who have delivered newborns the previous day. Compile and assemble a variety of reports containing legal, clinical, and statistical information. Prioritize work plans and coordinate resources necessary to complete the birth certificate registration process.
• Telephonic interviewing of patients. Explaining complex rules and regulations governing birth certificate registration. These rules and regulations set by the Department of Vital Records and Statistics may include paternity acknowledgements, affidavits of non-paternity, and federal documents.
• Following Massachusetts State-mandated guidelines, interprets data provided by patients and clinicians. This data includes educational and clinical background, prenatal behavior patterns, and ethnic origins.
• Identify and prepare legal affidavits and notification letters for appropriate patients. Acts as Notary Public, witnessing signatures and certifying legal documents.
• Coordinates the availability of specific interpreters for patients with language barriers. Works collaboratively with nursing staff and social services to ensure patients' needs are met.

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 0-1 years of related work experience required.
• Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications, which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access.

Pay Range: $19.00 - $25.57

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
