Open Position: Global Education Manager (full time) About the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) Based in Washington, DC, the World Affairs Councils of America is a nonpartisan nonprofit membership organization that supports, strengthens, and represents a national network of 90 nonpartisan organizations working to deepen their communities’ global perspective. Learn more at Role Description The global education manager leads the development, coordination, and implementation of WACA’s educational programs and initiatives, advancing the organization’s mission to deepen global awareness through meaningful learning experiences. This role oversees a portfolio of national education programs, including Academic WorldQuest, the Student Scholars Program, Engage America, and educational resources designed to support the World Affairs Councils network. This role is central to ensuring educational quality, participant engagement, program growth, and strong partnerships across WACA’s education initiatives. The global education manager works closely with students, educators, member Councils, volunteers, funders, and programmatic partners to strengthen WACA’s national impact. This full-time, primarily in-person position is based in Washington, DC, and reports to the chief executive officer. It is well-suited for an experienced education or nonprofit professional seeking significant responsibility in program development, partnership management, and national educational initiatives. Because WACA operates with a collaborative staff structure, successful candidates will enjoy working across functional areas, contributing beyond their primary responsibilities when needed, and helping colleagues achieve shared organizational goals. Job Functions Academic WorldQuest Management and Development (45%) Lead planning, implementation, and evaluation of the annual Academic WorldQuest competition cycle, including topic selection, educational content development, study resources, question development, and the Carlos and Malú Alvarez Academic WorldQuest national competition in Washington, DC Support World Affairs Councils in the implementation, growth, and continuous improvement of local Academic WorldQuest competitions and related initiatives Maintain regular communication and serve as the national office’s primary point of contact for Academic WorldQuest participants, Councils, volunteers, and stakeholders Develop program materials and support strategic engagement with grant funders, sponsors, and programmatic partners related to Academic WorldQuest Manage the Academic WorldQuest program budget and support sponsor stewardship and resource development efforts Chair the Academic WorldQuest Task Force, including establishing meeting cadence, preparing agendas, and facilitating engagement Establish outcome and growth goals for Academic WorldQuest; track results and make recommendations to strengthen program impact Engage America Program Management (15%) Prepare grant proposals, MOUs, and final reports for Engage America funders Facilitate Engage America grant process for Councils from application and selection through submission of expense and final reports and funds reimbursement Develop and maintain related print & web materials Serve as the national office’s first point of contact for Engage America inquiries Track program outcomes and support evaluation efforts related to Engage America initiatives Global Education Program Development and Network Engagement (30%) Lead planning, implementation, and evaluation of additional global education initiatives, including the Student Scholars Program component of the WACA National Conference Lead recruitment, selection, onboarding, and evaluation of WACA interns; supervise one or more interns Catalogue World Affairs Councils’ educational programs and lead the development and curation of global education resources for Councils Support the Global Education Roundtable and other opportunities for Council representatives to share best practices and collaborate Develop and strengthen relationships with educators, educational partners, and organizations aligned with WACA’s mission Serve as the national office’s primary point of contact for global education inquiries Additional Responsibilities (10%) Support implementation of WACA signature programs and events, including the National Conference and Academic WorldQuest Attend Board and committee meetings as required and assist with coordination of Board committees as determined by the chief executive officer Participate in cross-functional planning, organizational initiatives, and special projects Seek out and participate in ongoing professional development related to this position Other related duties as assigned Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s degree in education, nonprofit management, international studies, or another related field Five years’ related professional experience in education, nonprofit programming, international affairs, or a related field Demonstrated experience developing, managing, and evaluating educational programs or initiatives Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects from concept through implementation and evaluation Professional presence, sound judgment, and poise that support representing the organization externally Demonstrated passion for and knowledge of world affairs, global current events, and the mission of the World Affairs Councils network Developed cross-cultural competence, evidenced by prior work, study, or travel Strong communication skills in English, including copywriting and one-on-one conversation, evidenced by application materials and interview Ability to work as part of a small, cross-functional team and take ownership of projects from concept to completion Proven time and project management, dependability, efficiency, organization, attention to detail, research skills, and team skills Creativity and ability to solve problems with diplomacy, flexibility, and good judgment Professionalism and integrity, particularly with personal or confidential information Preferred: Experience as a K-12 teacher or other educator Professional experience in the nonprofit or association sector Experience developing educational programming for students, educators, or community audiences Experience managing volunteers, advisory groups, or task forces Prior experience coordinating events with more than 100 participants Experience with CRM/database software and manipulating spreadsheets Experience with grant processes, applications, and evaluation Fluency in languages other than English Basic familiarity with HTML and WordPress Environment and Other Expectations The WACA office is located in downtown Washington, DC, with easy access to Metro and bus lines. WACA staff work in a fast-paced environment and should be prepared to balance multiple priorities and deadlines, take ownership of their projects, and work independently, as part of a team, and with a variety of interns, volunteers, board members, and other organizations. While this position will be primarily onsite, limited remote work on a consistent weekly schedule to be identified with the individual is permitted after an initial onboarding and team-building period. Applicants should reside in the greater Washington, DC, metropolitan area or be willing to relocate. This position involves primarily daytime, weekday hours on a consistent schedule to be identified with the individual. A limited amount of domestic travel is required for this role. Compensation The hiring range for this position is $78,145 to $91,935, commensurate with education and experience and with potential for growth based on performance and organizational development.
