Clinical Informaticist

Overview The Clinical Informaticist focuses upon meeting the electronic medical record (EMR) end user IT related needs for UnityPoint Health Des Moines’ hospital based and ambulatory areas/departments. This role ensures support of the EMR and other clinical and nonclinical systems as assigned related to adoption, implementation, support, optimization, change management, communication, issue management, business continuity, and downtime recovery. The Clinical Informaticist will work directly with all levels within UPH DM in support of strategic initiatives and patient experience in collaboration with UPH IT resources. Teach the application(s) to others within the organization following the standardized and best practice curriculum. Identify issues and opportunities within the EMR, seek approval for enhancement requests, and assist in prioritization and implementation of system changes. Collaborate with UPH IT, physicians and clinical staff to ensure EMR implementations are optimized based on clinical workflow. Communicate effectively with leadership and end users to ensure smooth implementation of new functional elements, applications, and major releases. Understand and address the impact of the EMR on other clinical applications and operations. Develop departmental operational and management backup procedures for business continuity and downtime recovery. Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of training procedures and materials for assigned application. Assist in scheduling and coordinating training resources across UPH-DM. Provide training for clinical staff following UPH standardized curriculum. Monitor training progress and report critical issues as they arise. Utilize reporting resources to oversee and assess EHR competency levels of staff, physicians, and advanced practitioners and recommend actions to strengthen performance and increase efficiency. Conduct audits and run reports of the documentation system to ensure standards are being met. Facilitate the development of reporting tools for patient care monitoring. Participate in quality control reviews of database and assure consistency and accuracy of data being collected. Qualifications Education: Completion of accredited RN nursing program required. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred. Experience: Clinical background required with minimum 2 years experience in hospital, physician practice or education/training role. Healthcare related IT experience with responsibilities in project management preferred. License(s)/Certification(s): Valid Nursing license required.
