Ophthalmic Tech

Job Summary The Ophthalmic Technician assists the medical practitioner/physician by taking medical history, performing initial eye examinations, and completing diagnostic testing. This role supports physicians during patient care, maintains clinical equipment and supplies, and contributes to ensuring an efficient and patient-centered clinic environment. General Duties & Responsibilities Performs patient assessments and technical skills to evaluate ophthalmic status, including emergency procedures and medication administration as appropriate. Performs high-quality ophthalmic procedures with a focus on patient care and education. Prepares patients for physician evaluation by collecting medical history, transferring and informing patients. Performs diagnostic testing including visual acuity, color vision, lensometry, tonometry, and other basic ophthalmic tests. Collects patient eye measurements, including intraocular pressure. Assists physicians during examinations and minor procedures. Supports ophthalmologists in the treatment of eye diseases and disorders. Documents and maintains accurate patient records in charts and Meditech. Educates patients and documents patient interactions. Maintains ophthalmic office equipment and ensures exam rooms are clean, stocked, and properly prepared. Performs room turnover duties including cleaning, disposal, inventory management, and restocking supplies and equipment. Manages medication and clinical supply inventory, including ordering as needed. Applies knowledge of growth and development in patient care and interactions. Supports departmental goals and contributes to overall team success. Performs all other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum of 2 years of experience in Optometry or Ophthalmology. Preferred Qualifications Completion of an Ophthalmic Assistant Program. Accreditation from a technical school or applicable training program. Previous experience performing ophthalmic diagnostic testing.
