HR BUSINESS PARTNER - EMPLOYEE LABOR RELATIONS SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ

We are seeking an experienced HR Business Partner to join our team and play a key role supporting employees, leaders, and a highly engaged workforce. This is a hands-on HRBP opportunity with a strong emphasis on employee relations, labor relations, and union environments.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working closely with leadership and employees to resolve complex workplace issues, interpret and administer collective bargaining agreements, and help drive a positive, productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted HR partner to employees, managers, and senior leadership across the organization.
• Manage a high volume of complex employee relations matters, including investigations, performance issues, disciplinary actions, grievances, and workplace conflicts.
• Provide guidance to managers on employee relations, policy interpretation, performance management, and employment practices.
• Partner closely with union representatives and leadership on labor relations, grievances, contract interpretation, and collective bargaining agreement administration.
• Participate in and support union negotiations and contract administration.
• Ensure consistent application of company policies, procedures, and employment practices.
• Conduct and document workplace investigations and recommend appropriate actions.
• Coach leaders on effective employee communication, conflict resolution, and performance management.
• Support workforce planning, organizational changes, and other HR initiatives.
• Partner with recruiting, compensation, benefits, and other HR functions to support business objectives.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
• Analyze employee relations and workforce trends and recommend solutions to leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in an HRBP, Employee Relations, or Labor Relations role.
• Significant union/labor relations experience is required.
• Strong experience handling complex employee relations issues and workplace investigations.
• Experience interpreting and administering collective bargaining agreements.
• Experience working directly with union leadership and/or employee representatives.
• Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
• Excellent communication, coaching, conflict-resolution, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
• HR certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR is a plus
