Job Overview Under the direction of the VP of Aviation Strategy & Enterprise Analytics, the Principal Data Scientist leads the development and deployment of ML/AI solutions while coaching data science teams. Balances hands-on modeling with technical mentorship, ensuring data-driven decision-making at scale. Designs, develops, tests, delivers, maintains and improves applications, and works across the entire software development lifecycle to optimize front-end (user experience) and back-end workflow. Designs, develops, tests, delivers, maintains and improves applications, and works across the entire software development lifecycle to optimize front-end (user experience) and back-end workflow. What You Will Be Doing Drives end-to-end ownership of ML/AI model development, from research to deployment. Guides and mentors data scientists, ensuring best practices in model development, experimentation, and validation. Collaborates with engineering, product, and business teams to align data science solutions with company goals. Designs, develops, and maintains scalable machine learning models and pipelines. Leads the exploration of new techniques in AI/ML, ensuring the adoption of cutting-edge methods. Oversees data governance, bias mitigation, and ethical AI practices. Works with leadership to define KPIs and success metrics for AI-driven initiatives. Manages stakeholder communications, translating complex data science concepts into business impact. Ensures model monitoring, retraining, and continuous improvement for production models. Contributes to hiring, onboarding, and training data science team members. Performs other related duties as assigned. What You Need Bachelor’s degree in data science & AI, computer science, operations research, or a related field. Eight (8) plus years of experience in data science/machine learning engineering. Experience leading data science teams in an applied, hands-on capacity. Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Knowledge of Generative AI and NLP tooling. Knowledge of geospatial analytics and modeling knowledge and tooling. Knowledge of reinforcement learning and agent–based simulation basics. Knowledge of road traffic planning and management, airline operations. Knowledge of data privacy, compliance, and ethical AI considerations. Knowledge of stakeholder management and ability to influence decision-making. Skill in Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, Keras, Scikit-Learn, SQL, Data & ML cloud services. Skill in advanced ML modeling, feature engg, and algorithm development. Skill in neural networks (LSTM, RNN CNN, GNN), autoencoders. Skill in experimental design & A/B testing; data cleansing, harmonization, and packaging; descriptive & diagnostic analytics for business insights. Ability to complete statistical modeling & hypothesis testing. Ability to translate data insights into actionable business recommendations. Ability to align ML initiatives with product roadmaps and business objectives. Ability to work cross-functionally with engg, design, and product teams. Ability to complete hypothesis-driven research. Ability to coach and develop data scientists. Ability to foster a data-driven culture within the organization. Special Requirements Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.
