Funeral Director/Embalmer

Overview Our associates celebrate lives. Compassionately facilitate funeral arrangement discussions with deceased next of kin and preside over visitation, funeral, and graveside services in accordance with family’s wishes, company expectations, and local, state, or federal laws. May perform embalming responsibilities. As the licensed Funeral Director, ensure compliance with all mortuary, health, and vital statistics regulations within the funeral establishment(s). Responsibilities Facilitate funeral arrangement discussions and conduct Arrangements Conferences with deceased next of kin. Collect and confirm deceased and family contact information, schedule appointment, and send confirmation. Perform removals or transfers adhering to company standards. Care for deceased respectfully and update removal status in proprietary software. Greet next of kin and escort to meeting space. Initiate and facilitate Arrangements Conferences, assess needs, and summarize desired outcomes. Discuss life insurance, benefits such as Veteran, and promote funeral, cemetery, and crematory services. Transition to Funeral Services Counselor/Advisor for cemetery property, merchandise options, pricing, and contract completion. Authorize and review merchandise and service contract revisions. Preside as Master of Ceremonies for visitation, funeral, or graveside services. Ensure graveside services are conducted according to purchase agreement and verify removal of personal belongings. Inspect deceased, adjust casket dressing, attire or makeup, and communicate concerns. Inspect services against contractual arrangements and initiate corrective action. Interact with family to fulfill death‑care requests and obtain leads for pre‑need services. Plan events, including resource planning, ordering music, flowers, catering, and producing memorial products. Prepare event room, set up chairs, tables, flowers, guest books, décor, and clean post‑event. Perform attendant duties such as parking lot attendant, driver, usher, pallbearer, or courier. Represent location at community or charity events. Care for deceased, verify identification, review embalming authorization, and conduct embalming following hazardous waste procedures. Dress casket and lay deceased, update status, and maintain preparation room. Inventory and reorder supplies, ensuring a safe work environment. Collaborate with peers or manager for guidance and maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Qualifications Graduated from an accredited school or college of mortuary science. Current Funeral Director and Embalmer dual license within the practicing state. Valid state driver's license with acceptable driving record; required to operate company‑owned vehicles. Industry experience preferred. Cognitive ability including reasoning, planning, problem identification, rapid learning, and application. Process‑ and results‑oriented, with motivation to advance projects. Positive attitude, self‑motivated, and continual learning drive. Ability to build professional and trusting business relations. Professional written and verbal communication skills. Public speaking skills with ability to influence and gain consensus. Proficiency in databases and automated processes. Proficiency in MS Office skills. Work Conditions Work is both indoors and outdoors during all seasons and weather. Professional business attire required when in contact with families. Frequent sitting or standing up to 6 hours per day; frequent climbing stairs. Physical effort requiring manual dexterity, paperwork, calculation, computer, and phone use. Ability to push and pull up to 150 pounds on flat and inclined flooring or ramps. Work hours often include nights and weekends as services occur outside normal business hours.
