Primary Responsibilities Performs speech therapy services to patients in accordance with generally accepted standards, Maryland Board of Speech: Board of Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers, and Speech-Language Pathologists, code of ethics, and departmental and/or organizational policies and procedures. Performs patient assessments and develops individualized treatment plan programs for clients/patients diagnosed as needing speech, language, or hearing interventions. Develops and maintains long- and short-term treatment objectives and re-evaluates and modifies treatment programs as necessary. Records patient evaluations, re-evaluations and care provided in the medical record, in accordance with departmental documentation standards. Informs patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members of evaluation results and plan for treatment and refers for further evaluation. Plans and provides therapy education and counseling to individuals. Provides mentorship and training to clinical team members and/or students as eligible based on departmental needs. Demonstrates interdisciplinary, safe, patient-centered care and delivers excellent customer service. Participates in performance improvement activities and suggests areas for improvement to colleagues in a tactful and considerate manner. Proposes performance improvement topics and alternate treatment techniques to improve therapy services. Reports clinical and operational issues to departmental leadership and assists in their resolution to assure high quality care and efficient departmental operations. Performs other related duties as assigned. Education & Experience - Required Education: Master's degree in speech language pathology. Experience: Successful completion of Clinical Fellowship Year. Licensure/Certifications: Full speech pathology license in the state of Maryland. Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) is required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to access, review, and integrate information from a variety of sources to develop a treatment plan. Strong verbal, written, and non-verbal communication skills, including the ability to instruct others. Interpersonal skills to enable the therapist to establish and maintain rapport with patient as part of the therapeutic relationship. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse healthcare team. Ability to manage time and set priorities according to the demands of the job. Ability to conceptualize and problem-solve in the management of the patient. Ability to break down functional tasks to achieve patient centered goals. Ability to communicate effectively with team members and patients. Ability to effectively use various pieces of medical and therapeutic equipment. Work Environment & Physical Demands Work Environment: Medical Related Facility - climate and lighting controlled, clean, but with biohazards and medical equipment hazards. Physical Requirements: Strenuous-regular and considerable walking, climbing or standing for extended periods, regular lifting, pushing or pulling of objects, materials, tools, equipment, and/or patients weighing up to 50 pounds. Fine Manipulation Skills Requirements: Moderate-work requires regular fine manipulation in keyboarding, setting equipment controls and typically use of both hands. Corrected Vision Requirements: Normal Range Far and Peripheral Vision Speaking Attribute Requirement: Communicates effectively in person to person speech. Work Experience Required Clinical Skills: Evaluation and treatment of adult patients with speech, language, voice, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders. Proficiency in conducting standardized assessments and developing individualized treatment plans. Experience treating patients with neurological diagnoses, including stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's disease, and dementia. Knowledge of dysphagia assessment and treatment techniques. Ability to implement evidence-based treatment interventions. Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving skills. Patient Care & Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to establish rapport with patients and caregivers. Skilled in patient and family education to promote carryover of treatment strategies. Strong customer service skills and commitment to patient-centered care. Ability to motivate patients and support achievement of functional goals. Documentation & Compliance Skills: Accurate and timely completion of clinical documentation; Knowledge of Medicare, commercial insurance, and regulatory requirements; Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems; Ability to maintain productivity standards while delivering quality care. Collaboration & Teamwork Skills: Strong interdisciplinary collaboration with physical therapists, occupational therapists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals; Ability to communicate effectively with referral sources and community providers; Demonstrated teamwork and adaptability in a fast-paced outpatient environment. Organizational Skills: Strong time management and scheduling skills; Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple patients throughout the day; Attention to detail and commitment to quality outcomes. Preferred Qualifications Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA. Current state licensure or eligibility for licensure. Experience in outpatient rehabilitation settings preferred. Experience with modified barium swallow studies, FEES, LSVT LOUD®, SPEAK OUT!®, or other specialty programs preferred.
