Medical Support AssistantThe Medical Support Assistant (MSA) performs a full range of duties related to the delivery of healthcare services setting. The duties of the Medical Support Assistant may include but are not limited to:Advises clinical staff on current administrative processesScreening/receiving phone calls in a courteous and timely mannerRelaying messages to appropriate staff inside or outside of OCCScheduling, canceling, re-scheduling Veteran appointments and/or consultsInterpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelinesEntering no-show informationMonitoring appointment requests from multiple electronic sourcesParticipating in huddles with other MSAs and/or OCC staff teamsMonitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments areas of responsibilityProcesses incoming patient secure messaging through MyHealthyVet and coordinates with care teamParticipates in team huddles and team meetings to manage, plan, problem solve, and follow-up with Veteran care by sharing information and collaborating with the interdisciplinary teamIdentifies incomplete authorizations and communicates with OCC team and PACT providersAssists the team to reinforce the plan of care and self-help solutionsEnters appropriate information into the electronic recordMonitors pre-appointment information and/or requirements to assure readiness for patient visit/procedureManages VISTA, CPRS, FBCS, HSRM, eCAMS, and other electronic patient systemsEvaluates patient information and clinic schedules to determine immediate appointment requirementsInforms team members about shared patientsScreens new consults for OCC for eligibility, specialty service requested duplication, and appropriatenessSeeks guidance with difficult and more complexed consult problems to identify workable solutionsDetermines the veteran's eligibility to receive medical services through OCC processesReviews and updates procedure manuals to maintain knowledge of current procedures and processesAssures authorization is obtained from appropriate service chief for procedures performed at non-VA facilitiesContacts Veteran by telephone to explain pending or new consult requestEducates providers and team members about patient's medical careSupports the maintenance of electronic databases to track OCC consultsDemonstrates a high level of flexibility, teamwork, and multi-faceted skills by cross-training to other areas within OCC to provide coverage as neededCompletes multiple assignments varying in degree of difficulty to ensure patient needs are metSends documents to the appropriate department for scanningScreens/receives phone calls in a courteous and timely mannerWork Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pmPay: Competitive salary and regular salary increasesPaid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VAInsurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)Telework: Not AuthorizedVirtual: This is not a virtual position.Functional Statement #: 00647F,00648F,00283FPermanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized
