Manufacturing Supervisor - 3rd Shift

Manufacturing Supervisor – 3rd Shift Location: Harvey, IL facility. Shift schedule: 11:00 pm–7:00 am, Monday‑Friday with occasional Saturday shifts. Reports to the Production Manager. Primary duties include supervising and leading a team of machine operators, driving continuous improvement, and owning shift‑level safety, quality, delivery, and productivity. Key Responsibilities Lead teams using the Atkore Business System and Lean Daily Management to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost. Develop and implement strategies to raise team engagement, alignment, and performance. Foster a positive “can‑do” atmosphere through regular team meetings, task assignment, empowerment, and support coordination. Implement cross‑training to ensure full functionality of work cells and maximize team potential. Coach team members in problem‑identification, root‑cause analysis, and countermeasure implementation. Manage vacation schedules and overtime. Demonstrate the Atkore values of Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect, and Excellence. Progression Milestones 3‑Month Milestones Complete the Atkore Immersion Program. Understand how the role supports Atkore’s Business System through Lean Daily Management and Strategy Deployment. Supervise the direct team on daily requirements independently. Identify safety, quality, delivery, and cost improvement opportunities and prioritize actions. Gain familiarity with products and processes. Follow and adjust leaders’ standard work for daily, weekly, and monthly tasks. Review hour‑by‑hour boards, submit daily production reports, and facilitate KPI board reviews. 6‑Month Milestones Participate in a Kaizen event relevant to the position. Take full ownership of the shift’s Lean Daily Management, including Tier 1 Gemba and KPI boards. Fully understand the shift’s impact on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC). Lead training sessions for the team. Partner with Safety, Quality, and HR to investigate and correct on‑the‑job safety incidents, customer complaints, and labor‑relations issues. Strengthen the team’s commitment to Atkore’s core values. Coach for performance, behavior, and culture. 12‑Month Milestones Lead a high‑performance team that meets or exceeds SQDC goals. Identify gaps and implement corrective actions. Own formal improvement tracking, including action plans. Create and update reports, training materials, and procedures. Drive Lean transformation for the shift by initiating and implementing SQDC improvement projects. Conduct meaningful conversations with direct reports to enhance engagement and performance. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (bachelor’s degree preferred). 1‑3 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience in steel manufacturing or tube forming (highly preferred). High energy, strong work ethic, schedule flexibility, and willingness to work extra hours. Excellent communication and leadership skills, including conflict resolution. Background in continuous improvement (lean, WCM, GMP, etc.) with a passion for further growth. Thrives in a problem‑solving environment. Experience with unionized environments and appreciation for inventory and process control (preferred but not required). Compensation & Benefits Estimated annual pay range: $71,120 – $97,790, adjusted for qualifications, experience, and shift requirements. Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
