Medical Nutrition Therapy Specialist
Provide medical nutrition therapy for diabetes and other chronic diseases to patients and families. Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments that consider other chronic disease conditions, social determinants of health, and cultural influences. Provide diabetes self-management education and training to patients and family members utilizing curriculum approved by the American Diabetes Association.
Plan, develop, and implement individual and group diabetes education for patients, their families, and the community. Provide appropriate documentation that summarizes the diabetes self-management/nutrition care plan in the patient’s medical record. Serve as a resource to medical staff and other health personnel on medical nutrition therapy and diabetes self-management issues. Develop and review evidence-based educational curriculum for patients and the community. Integrate skills and knowledge of pathophysiology, clinical management, and self-management of the medical condition into clinical practice. Assist in the education of various students and interns (dietetic PA and NP). Plan learning experiences, teaches, and evaluates performance. Participate in quality improvement projects to meet and improve standards of care. Maintain productivity standards and practices effective time management and prioritization of tasks. Manage resources including time, materials, and staff in a cost-effective manner, developing and revising patient education materials, policies, and procedures as needed. Assist in achieving compliance with accrediting organizations and regulatory agency standards. Supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of Augusta Health. Complies with the Augusta Health Care Code of Conduct and all policies, procedures, and regulations. Performs a variety of related duties as assigned. Meets all annual training, health, and safety requirements. Demonstrates regular, reliable, and dependable attendance.
As needed, may be required to work on weekdays, weekends, evenings, and/or night shifts. On holidays or additional shifts. During disaster situations i.e. before, during, or after a disaster or inclement weather (hurricane, flood, snowstorm, etc.). Additional hours after scheduled work day or shift based on operational needs.
Education: A bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or Dietetics. License/Certification: Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) Certification OR Eligible and willing to obtain required CDCES or BC-ADM certification within two (2) years of DCES hire date including documented completion of 15 CEUs in diabetes-related education within 4 months of hire and each ADA anniversary year thereafter until certification is obtained. Experience: Minimum 2 years of clinical experience. Experience with diabetic patient population preferred.
