About the Role:

Aquila Technology is seeking a Software Engineer to support one of the nation's premier defense research organizations. Aquila Technology is seeking a Software Engineer to develop and maintain full-stack applications supporting advanced bioanalytics and data-driven initiatives. The role includes developing scalable software, bioinformatics tools, and AI-driven solutions using complex biological datasets.The ideal candidate will have experience with full-stack development, data integration, software architecture, and building secure, reliable applications.

• 5 years Schema definitions and data modeling for SQL databases
• 5 years AWS development (S3, IAM, RDS, EC2, Systems Manager, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, ECR, EKS)
• 5 years Software Documentation
• 5 years JavaScript/React
• 5 years Proficiency in modern Python (e.g. Flask, SQLAlchemy, boto3)
• 5 years Designing and developing cloud-based distributed systems with microservices
• 5 years full-stack software development
• 5 years Version control (Git/GitHub/GitLab)

Nice to Have:

• SQL database performance tuning and query optimization
• Background in bioinformatics, genomics, or related life sciences data
• Defining, debugging, and troubleshooting ETL / ELT pipelines and processes
• Defining and managing workflows in k8s-based orchestration engines (i.e. Kubeflow)

Required Skills :

• Master's degree in Computer Science or related discipline. In lieu of a master's degree, a bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience
• 5+ years of full-stack software development experience, including:
• Strong proficiency in modern Python (e.g. Flask, SQLAlchemy, boto3) and JavaScript/React
• Experience designing and developing cloud-based distributed systems with microservices
• Schema definitions and data modeling for SQL databases
• AWS development experience (S3, IAM, RDS, EC2, Systems Manager, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, ECR, EKS)
• Version control (Git/GitHub/GitLab)
• Strong software documentation practices
• Proven ability to identify strategic implications of technical decisions and proactively advise the development team on potential downstream impacts.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in small to medium sized teams
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• SQL database performance tuning and query optimization

Team members must achieve a grade of “B” or better to qualify for reimbursement.Aquila will reimburse up to $5,000 per fiscal year for tuition expenses only. Expenses related to training programs, certifications, books, materials, meals, transportation, or other non-tuition costs are not eligible under the Tuition Reimbursement Program. All tuition reimbursement requests must be submitted to and approved by the team member's Manager prior to course registration. Reimbursement will be issued upon successful course completion and submission of final grades and proof of payment.

• Eligibility on date of hire
• Employer Match- 100% of first 3% and 50% of next 2%
• Vesting- 100%
• Contribution limit- $24,500
• Catch-up contribution limit- $8,000
• Catch-up contribution limit for ages 60-63 in calendar year- $11,250
• Catchup contributions must be directed to Roth bucket if earned over
$150k in 2025

Cell Phone & Internet Reimbursed up to $150 monthly to cover cell phone, data, and home internet expenses. Aquila Technology will reimburse team members who work from home ONLY for cell phone/mobile device fees for work-related communications and/or operations each month. Employees eligible for this benefit must work remote 2 days a week or more to qualify.

Buy Your Own Device (BYOD) - Team members are eligible for reimbursement of up to $1,500 every three (3) years for the purchase of electronic equipment used to access corporate services. To qualify for this benefit, employees must have completed a minimum of six (6) months of employment and must agree to and sign the Device Minimum Configuration Form prior to reimbursement. Electronic devices eligible under the Buy Your Own Device (BYOD) program are limited to cell phones, laptops, and tablets.

Work Location: Candidates should expect to be onsite at least 4 days a week for the first year. Afterwards, flexibility for a hybrid schedule could be discussed. Final schedule TBD by the hiring manager.
Interview Process: 1st round will be Zoom. If the candidate is local, 2nd round interview will be onsite which is preferred. If the candidate not local, a Zoom interview will take place.
