Job Title: Clinical Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical-Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 48 Experience: Minimum of one year of nursing experience; 2+ years of Medical-Surgical experience highly preferred. License: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Must-Have: Competence in patient care, patient assessment, care planning, and point-of-care testing. Description: Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reports to the Nurse Manager or Director. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting. Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self. Attends education programs based on identified learning needs. Assesses readiness to learn of the patient, family, and caregivers. Evaluates care by identifying expected patient outcomes. Seeks guidance when needed in the revision of the plan of care. Participates in discussions with the interdisciplinary team in the evaluation of patient care. Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care. Demonstrates competence in the care of patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care. Performs bedside point-of-care testing as required. Utilizes nursing standards, policies, and procedures in the delivery of care. Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient and family needs. Consults with appropriate resources in a timely manner regarding patients with complex care issues. Develops goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations. Achieves goals and objectives within the identified time frame. Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities. Effectively uses communication systems. Participates in promoting cost-effective care. Provides feedback to co-workers. Promotes a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment. Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care. Synthesizes assessment data into meaningful information prior to communication to others. Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families. Develops relationships with families that promote their ability to advocate for the patient and their own needs. Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update the plan of care. Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning care. Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems. Reads journals that contain studies or articles that may be applicable to practice. Brings ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability.
