JOB SUMMARY
Student Health and Wellness (SHaW) Mental Health at The University of Connecticut (Storrs Campus) is searching for a licensed clinician to provide direct clinical services, including assessment and brief psychotherapy, group therapy, case management, emergency care, psycho-educational services, and consulting services to the University community.
The position is a full-time (35 hours weekly), in-person, 10-month position reporting to the Director of Clinical Services on the Storrs Campus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides psychotherapeutic counseling to individuals and groups, consulting with other professionals as necessary; diagnoses, assesses and treats emotional and functional disorders through a brief psychotherapy model of care.
Performs clinical assessment, brief intervention, referral and follow-up to students presenting with a wide range of mental health needs.
Provides emergency on-call service and crisis intervention for students who have psychiatric emergencies. This may occasionally include extending byond normal scheduled hours.
Prepares required clinical records and case reports in a timely manner and carries on necessary correspondence.
May train and supervise other health professionals, field placement students/trainees, and volunteers.
Conducts workshops and outreach services designed to provide mental health education to students, staff, faculty, administrators, and parents.
May prepare narrative and statistical reports of activities for use in the evaluation of the mental health services. May compile data to analyze and identify risks, trends, and gaps in the program.
Communicates and consults with appropriate university administrators, stakeholders and various mental health and academic faculty. May make referrals to and consult with other mental health agencies offering specialized care beyond the scope of Student Health and Wellness Mental Health Services.
Serves as a resource and consultant to the University community on matters relating to the well-being of students within the limits of confidentiality.
Assists with developing and maintaining policies and procedures to govern mental health services. Ensures adherence to best practices.
Serves on departmental and/or University committees representing Student Health and Wellness and applicable policies and procedures to stakeholders and constituencies.
Manages a clinical caseload, including clinical and administrative tasks.
Clinical practice consistent with university, accreditation, and billing compliance standards.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge of:
The practice of mental health care, including diagnosis and treatment.
Legal and ethical standards at the local, state, and federal levels of the practice of mental health care.
Best practices and models of public health and prevention initiatives designed to address mental health concerns across college and university communities.
Community resources, treatment planning, and case management.
Principles and practices of employee supervision.
Microsoft Office and related software applications.
Skill in:
Mental health assessment.
Crisis response/management.
Planning and organization.
Understanding students and fostering student success.
Developing and maintaining effective and appropriate working relationships.
Critical thinking, problem solving and analysis.
Recognition of social disparities and engaging with inclusive practice.
Ability to:
Take creative initiative in developing effective and unique mental health primary prevention initiatives that are grounded in clinical research.
Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries and maintain clinical records.
Provide mental health education and outreach to all members of the campus community.
Communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
Respect diversity and work collaboratively with individuals of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds.
Work independently to analyze available information, draw conclusions and understandings, and present such conclusions effectively to senior management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s or Doctoral degree in psychology, social work, counseling, marriage and family therapy, or a related field.
Must possess or must obtain Connecticut Psychologist or Clinical licensure within one year of hire.
One year of related experience, which may include hours for obtaining the license.
Must have a demonstrated understanding of and stated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity issues in the delivery of clinical services.
Previous experience working effectively and collegially as part of an interdisciplinary behavioral health care team.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
State of CT Licensed Psychologist or Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
Demonstrated experience providing culturally responsive mental health services to college students.
Fluency in Spanish in both written and verbal communication.
Demonstrated training in brief treatment models.
Demonstrated expertise in a minimum of one specific treatment relevant to collegiate mental health (for example, eating disorders, attention deficit disorder).
Demonstrated experience working with a minimum of one specific population in college settings (for example, multicultural communities, international students, etc.).
Demonstrated experience in providing group therapy.
APPOINTMENT TERMS
The hiring range for this position is $90,485 to $123,585, commensurate with education and experience. The position is a full-time (35-hour weekly), 10-month position working mid-August through mid-June annually and reports to the Director of Clinical Services.
