Field Technician III

Client: Leading Telecommunications and Data Center Services Firm

Location: Ashburn VA

Duration: CTH (Targeting someone to go fulltime within six to eight months)

Pay rate: $33 to $3 6 .00 hourly

Manager Notes:

• The role will require extensive driving within a three-hour radius of Ashburn, VA . You will be required to be on call "every other week". On call means that you may receive calls late at night requiring either virtual or possible onsite support.
• While driving, my client will pay for your driving time to the job. Please note, t he first 30 minutes of your day , while driving, my client will not pay for. This is considered commuting time to the job, like with any other job. The last 30 minutes of the day, when driving, my client will not pay for , as they view this as driving home from your day at work.
• You will be using your own vehicle. If hired full-time by my client, then they would give you a company vehicle.
• If required to stay overnight, company will pay for hotel, and you will cover your own food. The following week, food will be reimbursed at $45 per day.

• Focused on supporting Zayo, Google, Infinera, Ciena and Viasat for FLM work. But would also do some BIR work including Comcast, Spectrum and OBS.
As a Data Center Technician, you will work both independently and as part of a team to support critical infrastructure environment. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to respond quickly to operational needs. You will be responsible for installing hardware, troubleshooting systems, maintaining documentation, and resolving issues within the data center .

Key Success Factors

• 1+ years of relevant experience in computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT field
• Experience with Fiber, OTDR Testing, and Ethernet.
• RFC/BERT/10GIG Testing.
• Maintenance on Servers and Switches .
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to independently resolve tickets and follow SOPs
• High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using ticketing systems to manage tasks and priorities
• Experience working in a data center environment
• Associate's degree, technical certification, or equivalent professional/military experience in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, network engineering)

Day to Day

• Install and maintain server racks and hardware components
• Perform break-fix repairs and troubleshoot hardware and network issues
• Respond to operational incidents i mpacting service availability and escalate when necessary
• Act as a primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders (engineers, vendors, contractors, etc.)
• Participate in on-call rotations, scheduled maintenance, and change management activities
• Create and maintain documentation; contribute to process improvements
• Assist in training and onboarding new team members

Preferred Skills:

• CompTIA A+ certification or Network +
• Cisco Certification
• Fiber Systems Certifications

Requirements:

• Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license
• Successful completion of pre-employment screenings including background and drug & alcohol
• The ability to work on call, evenings, and weekends as required
• Able to meet the physical requirements of the position

Screening Questions:

1. What is your experience in testing circuits with an OTDR? Which OTDR have you used and how strong are your skills (1-10 with 10 being the strongest)?

2. How many years of experience do you have with SONET (Synchronous Optical Network) and DWDM (Dense wavelength-division multiplexing)?

3. What is your experience with installing, repairing, configuring, and testing of MACD (moves, additions, changes and disconnects) on Nortel, Fujitsu, Alcatel, Ciena & Infinera products?

4. What is your experience in testing/installing ethernet based circuits (Routers & Switches)?

5. Do you have experience with RFC/BER/10-gig Testing?

6. Do you have experience with an optical power meter and a voltmeter? If so, how strong are your skills (1-10 with 10 being the strongest)?

7. Can you lift 50lbs?

8. Rate computer skills on a scale of 1-10.

9. Are you comfortable undergoing an MVR/background check/drug test?

10. Comfortable being on an on call rotation at night?

11. Rate your self management skills 1-10.
