Position: Major Gifts Officer Location: Portland, OR Job Id: 102 # of Openings: 1 Summary: In 2018, Animal Rescue Organization celebrates 150 years of saving, caring for, and improving the lives of animals and the people who love them. At this exciting time in our history, we are seeking a highly motivated and proven Major Gifts Officer who believes in our work and is deeply passionate about promoting our mission. The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual gifts to Animal Rescue Organization. With the goal of meeting and exceeding ambitious major gifts revenue, this position manages a portfolio of donors and prospects to increase support for the programs and ever expanding reach. The Major Gifts Officer collaborates with the Development Team and across the organization to build donor engagement, lifetime relationships and innovative giving opportunities. As a key member of the fundraising team, this position champions the Vice President of Development’s initiatives with the executive leadership, Board of Directors and key stakeholders. Essential Duties and Functions: Major Gifts: Manage a portfolio of individuals and family foundations. Utilizing moves management, personally cultivate and solicit major gifts from current and prospective donors. Create opportunities for current donors to increase their commitments and realize their philanthropic goals. Work with the Individual Gifts Manager to develop strategies to move mid-level donors from direct mail solicitation to personal solicitation. Partner with leadership with respect to cultivation, solicitation and stewardship efforts; utilize their time and talents appropriately; ensure their effectiveness as a spokesperson and fundraiser. Develop annual fundraising goals and business plans in alignment with department wide goals and efforts. Collaborate with Marketing and Communications on the development of collateral materials, innovative ideas and giving opportunities. Develop, plan and implement special events for current and prospective donors. Acknowledge major donors through both public and private recognition. Participate in planning and executing special initiatives and capital campaigns. Utilize systems and software to identify, track, cultivate and steward donors; report progress using specific department metrics. Play a leadership role with staff, volunteers and community supporters at meetings, special events, promotions, and community functions as a representative of Animal Rescue Organization. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed in shared office, with regular exposure to the animal kennels, shelter, and veterinary settings. Must be able to speak clearly and loudly to groups inside, outside, and in small and large spaces. Regularly sits at a computer station and operates electronic equipment. Occasionally lifts, carries and positions objects weighing up to 30 pounds when moving supplies and managing special events. Typically stands, bends, stoops and crouches while working special events. Regularly moves about the campus to coordinate work. Regular driving to speaking or meeting locations. Consistently exposed to animals in the workplace and animal allergens under conditions with limited alternatives available. Education and Experience (required): Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree preferred Five to seven years of demonstrated success soliciting and securing major gifts along with managing Major Giving programs Capital campaign experience is a plus Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of Animal Rescue Organization. Outstanding donor relations and prospect identification skills. Must be a self-starter who enjoys making and maintaining good professional relationships. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple, complex fundraising activities simultaneously. Superior oral and written communication skills. Strong organization skills with a propensity for detail. Successful experience working in a performance-based department as an integral partner in a highly effective environment. Knowledge of moves management. Proven planning skills with a demonstrated ability to lead and manage. Sound judgment and ability to exercise complete discretion when dealing with confidential information. Technology proficiency including MS Office suite and fundraising software, Raisers Edge preferred. Salary and Benefits: The salary for this position depends on the length and breadth of experience.
