About the Role:

The Expanded School-based Mental Health Provider plays a critical role in supporting the emotional, behavioral, and mental well-being of students within the school environment. This position involves delivering comprehensive mental health services, including assessment, counseling, crisis intervention, and referral to community resources, to promote positive student outcomes. The provider collaborates closely with educators, families, and community partners to create a supportive and inclusive atmosphere that addresses the diverse needs of students. By integrating mental health services into the school setting, this role aims to reduce barriers to care and enhance students' academic and social success. Ultimately, the provider contributes to building a resilient school community where students feel safe, understood, and empowered to thrive.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related mental health field.
  • Valid state licensure or certification as a mental health professional (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent).
  • Experience providing direct mental health services to children and adolescents, preferably in a school or community setting.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based mental health interventions and crisis management techniques.
  • Ability to comply with confidentiality laws and ethical standards related to mental health practice.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within school systems or educational environments.
  • Training in trauma-informed care, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), or other relevant therapeutic modalities.
  • Familiarity with cultural competency and working with diverse student populations.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including educators, healthcare providers, and social services.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct mental health assessments and develop individualized treatment plans tailored to students' needs.
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions to address a range of mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and behavioral challenges.
  • Collaborate with teachers, school staff, and families to identify students in need of support and to implement intervention strategies.
  • Respond promptly to mental health crises and provide appropriate crisis intervention and follow-up care.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of services provided, progress notes, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate referrals to external mental health providers and community resources when additional support is necessary.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development of school-wide mental health initiatives and prevention programs.

Skills:

The required and preferred skills are essential for effectively delivering mental health services within the school setting. Strong clinical skills enable the provider to assess and address a wide range of student mental health needs through evidence-based interventions. Communication and collaboration skills are vital for working closely with school staff, families, and community partners to create coordinated care plans. Crisis intervention skills ensure the provider can respond swiftly and appropriately to urgent mental health situations. Additionally, cultural competency and language skills enhance the provider’s ability to engage with diverse student populations and foster an inclusive environment.
