We're recruiting an experienced Safety Manager / Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) for a growing heavy civil construction organization in Northern Nevada.

This is a highly visible leadership role for a safety professional who wants more ownership than simply conducting inspections, completing reports, and enforcing compliance.

You'll have the opportunity to strengthen and develop the company's safety infrastructure, improve field processes, coach operational leaders, and build systems that can scale as the organization continues to grow.

What You'll Own

Lead Safety in the Field

• Maintain a strong, visible presence across active heavy civil and earthwork projects

• Partner directly with Superintendents, Foremen, operators, and field crews

• Identify jobsite hazards and ensure corrective actions are addressed quickly

• Conduct site inspections, observations, audits, and safety meetings

• Reinforce expectations while building credibility and trust with field teams

• Help operational leaders make safety part of everyday project execution

Build & Strengthen the Safety Program

This position goes beyond maintaining an existing program. You'll help make it better.

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve company-wide safety programs

• Standardize safety policies, procedures, documentation, and reporting

• Identify gaps and build practical processes that work in real-world field environments

• Create systems that can scale across multiple projects and teams

• Partner with leadership to strengthen accountability throughout the organization

• Help establish measurable safety goals and performance standards

Develop People

• Lead new-hire safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing training

• Coach field leadership on hazard recognition, incident prevention, and accountability

• Develop training initiatives based on field observations and safety trends

• Mentor employees and supervisors on safe work practices

• Help create a proactive culture where employees understand both the "what" and the "why" behind safety expectations

Own Compliance, Reporting & Incident Management

• Maintain compliance with OSHA requirements and applicable construction safety standards

• Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis

• Develop and track corrective and preventive actions

• Monitor safety metrics, trends, observations, and incidents

• Maintain accurate, organized, audit-ready safety documentation

• Support regulatory inspections and internal audits

Partner With Operations

Safety shouldn't operate separately from production.

You'll work alongside operations during planning and execution to identify risk early, improve communication, and develop practical solutions that protect employees without losing sight of project performance.

What We're Looking For

Required

• 7+ years of construction safety experience

• Significant hands-on field safety leadership experience

• Experience developing, implementing, and improving safety programs

• Heavy civil, earthwork, underground utility, infrastructure, or heavy equipment construction experience

• Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction regulations

• Experience conducting incident investigations and implementing corrective actions

• Ability to communicate effectively with everyone from craft employees to executive leadership

• Strong training, coaching, documentation, and organizational skills

Required Certifications

• CHST – Construction Health & Safety Technician

• OSHA 510

Preferred

• Experience overseeing safety across multiple active construction projects

• First Aid / CPR Certification

• ASP or CSP certification

• Advanced incident investigation/root cause analysis experience

• Experience building or substantially improving a company-wide safety program
