About the Role

Quintessence Resources is seeking an experienced, highly qualified Intensive Behavior Support Specialist to support an individual with significant behavioral needs, including PICA (the persistent ingestion of non-food items), in our Lynchburg group home and community settings. This is not an entry-level role. We are looking for a seasoned professional who can implement individualized behavior support plans, maintain a safe environment, and accurately collect and document behavioral data that drives clinical decisions.

In this role you will maximize each person's abilities, strengths, and interests; build community connections and meaningful life experiences; and uphold each individual's dignity, safety, and right to make choices.

Minimum Qualifications — You Must Meet ALL of the Following

Please review carefully before applying. Applications that do not meet every requirement below will not be considered.

• Associate's degree in psychology, human services, social work, special education, or a closely related field (Bachelor's strongly preferred)

• Minimum two (2) years of hands-on experience supporting individuals who display intense or challenging behaviors

• Demonstrated, hands-on experience collecting and documenting behavioral data (e.g., ABC data, frequency, duration, interval recording) and implementing behavior support plans

• Ability and willingness to support an individual with PICA, including close/line-of-sight supervision and environmental safety monitoring

• Ability and willingness to work with individuals who may become physically aggressive (e.g., hitting, biting, spitting) and to provide personal care, including incontinence and adult diaper support

• A valid driver's license and a reliable, insured personal vehicle for transporting individuals (this is non-negotiable — please do not apply without your own transportation)

• Ability to pass criminal and Virginia registry background checks and a tuberculosis (TB) screening

• Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration, and Positive Behavior Support Training (TOVA) certifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in psychology, behavioral science, special education, social work, or a related field

• Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification or experience in an ABA-based setting

• Direct experience supporting individuals with PICA, elopement, or other high-risk behaviors

• Experience working within DBHDS / Virginia Medicaid Waiver service settings

• Current CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration, and TOVA or CPI certifications

What You'll Do

Collect and document behavioral data accurately. Record antecedents, behaviors, and consequences; track frequency, duration, and progress; and complete all documentation in accordance with support plans and Virginia/DBHDS requirements.

Maintain a safe environment for an individual with PICA. Provide attentive supervision, conduct environmental safety checks, and follow the individualized behavior support plan to reduce risk.

• Implement support plans, goals, and activities, and document progress

• Use positive behavioral techniques to de-escalate challenging situations while promoting respect and dignity

• Support daily living skills, personal care, and person-centered scheduling

• Facilitate community connections, social capital, and activities of the individual's choosing

• Administer medication per provider directions and DBHDS / State of Virginia policy

• Ensure individuals are free from abuse, neglect, and exploitation, and follow all safety policies

• Communicate clearly and respectfully with individuals, families, coworkers, and supervisors

• Provide transportation to appointments and community activities, and emergency coverage when requested

• Maintain satisfactory attendance and complete required trainings by established deadlines

Schedule

Hours

Day / Evening (Mon–Fri)

7:00 AM – 3:00 PM · 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM · 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Compensation & Why Join Us

$18.00/hour to start, increasing up to $22/hour after successful completion of the 90-day review period and confirmation that all required certifications are complete

• Paid training after all required certifications are completed (i.e. CPR/First Aid, Medication Administration, TOVA).

• Meaningful work making a direct, daily difference in someone's quality of life
