Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse to join our team at a brand new, modern Ambulatory Surgery Center located in DUMBO. This role is essential in delivering safe, efficient and patient-centered care throughout the surgical experience from pre-operative preparation through post-anesthesia recovery and discharge.

The Pre-Op/PACU RN is responsible for preparing patients for surgery, providing vigilant monitoring during recovery from anesthesia and ensuring patients are stable, comfortable and well-informed prior to their discharge home. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced outpatient environment, has strong assessment skills and values teamwork, communication and high quality care

Duties

• Preform pre-operative nursing assessments, verify documentation and ensure patients are properly prepared for surgery
• Start IV's, administer medications and provide patient education before procedures
• Monitor patients during Phase I and Phase II recovery, recognizing and responding to changed in condition
• Manage pain, nausea and other post-anesthesia needs in collaboration with anesthesia providers
• Provide clear post-operative instructions to patients and caregivers
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia staff and clinical teammates to maintain efficient patient flow
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the medical record
• Uphold infection control standards and all regulatory and accreditation requirements

Qualifications

• Current registered nurse (RN) license in the state of New York
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (ASN or BSN)
• Current BLS and ACLS certification through the American Heart Association
• Minimum of 1 year recent nursing experience in one or more of the following areas: Pre-Op, PACU, ICU, ER or OR
• Mandarin Speaking Preferred
• Strong Clinical assessment skills with the ability to recognize and respond to changes in patient condition
• Knowledge or pre-anesthesia assessment, post-anesthesia recovery and discharge criteria
• Ability to manage multiple patients while maintaining safety, efficiency and compassionate care
• Excellent communication skills with patients, families, anesthesia providers and surgeons
• Comfortable with IV starts, medication administration and pain management in the perioperative setting
• Prior experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center (preferred)
• Familiarity with outpatient surgery work flows and fast paced case turnover (preferred)

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Ability to assist with patient positioning and transfers
• Ability to lift up to 25lbs
• Manual dexterity and visual acuity necessary for clinical care tasks
