Summary Description

Under general supervision, performs tasks and supervisory operations in directing and organizing the efforts of personnel and associated machines, equipment and materials to meet daily production schedules; and performs related work as required.  This is a night shift position from 6 PM to 6 AM. 

Responsibilities/Duties

Responsibilities include meeting daily production schedules with quality products; establishing a learning environment in which personnel continue refining skills through training and dialogue; developing employee potentials through effective mentoring and team-building programs; assuring timely, appropriate manning; making innovative use of available time to train and develop subordinates; monitoring and mentoring subordinates in the conduct of their duties; eliminating any perceptions of preferential treatment; making timely decisions on when to call for assistance or support; assuring product quality through periodic checks; performing periodic performance evaluations and provide feedback to subordinates; counseling  "problem" employees to rectify deficient performances; maintaining real-time, appropriate documentation to substantiate personnel actions; pro-actively identifying and resolving any detractors to effectiveness and efficiency; providing adequate notifications to all concerned for any problem affecting schedule fidelity; maintaining a daily attendance record for all permanent, part-time, and temporary shift personnel; verifying the accuracy of information before passing it on; fully briefing the relieving supervisor on all pertinent matters; enforcing safety regulations, procedures and policies; and performing other related duties and following any other instructions as may be required by management.

Employment Standards

Education and Experience: Any combination providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.  Typical qualifications would be equivalent to completion of high school and at least ten years of combined experience within the department.

Knowledge: Methods, materials, and equipment used in department production; and safe work practices.

Skill: Understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions; conversant in the application of small group dynamics principles; possessing interpersonal skills; understanding of safe operation of production equipment; familiarization with the AS 400 System and/or PC software applications; working independently in the absence of management; establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships and teamwork among all members of the shift.
