Supervisory Pharmacist (Deputy Chief)

Summary This position serves as the Assistant Chief Pharmacist and supervisor of the Outpatient Section of the Pharmacy Department of the Rosebud Comprehensive Health Care Facility (RCHCF). The incumbent is responsible for selected day‑to‑day operations of the Outpatient Pharmacy and supervises all pharmacy operations in the absence of the Chief Pharmacist. Responsibilities Supervise operations of outpatient pharmacy services, including personnel management and scheduling, policy management, regulatory adherence, advising on work and administrative matters, resolving complaints, and identifying training needs. Provide formal and informal education and in‑services to medical staff, pharmacy, and nursing staff as requested. Work with physicians to develop protocols for medical and administrative research related to pharmacy. Collaborate with health professionals to develop treatment protocols, standards of practice and policies. Provide education to patients and families about medications, common disease states, and health promotion. Requirements Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory. Background Investigation All candidates must undergo a pre‑employment fingerprint check and background investigation approved by federal authorities. Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of the investigation. Qualifications Basic requirements: Doctoral degree in Pharmacy from an ACPE‑accredited program and valid state pharmacy license. Work experience: At least one year of specialized pharmacy experience that includes dispensing medications, evaluating medication use patterns, performing administrative or consultative work, planning and monitoring medication programs, establishing medication‑handling procedures, researching medical literature, and maintaining medication records. Minimum qualifications: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS‑12 level tasks such as scheduling and assigning work for subordinates, evaluating performance, ensuring credentialing standards, assisting the Chief Pharmacist in policy development, and conducting outpatient pharmacy clinics. Conditions of Employment Probationary period of up to one year may be required. Coverage of weekend, holiday, evening, and night shifts may be required. U.S. citizenship required.
