The Special Education Resource Teacher is responsible for ensuring that scholars with IEPs receive comprehensive, compassionate, and equitable services in order to achieve breakthrough academic achievement and character development. The Special Education Resource Teacher will serve in helping every child meet grade-level goals who receive special education services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Work as part of the instructional team to design, deliver, and assess the Austin Achieve curriculum based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Collaborate with teachers to develop effective whole group practices, small group interventions, and individualized learning activities. Plan and teach small groups during pull-out (Special Education Resource) instruction. Develop, coordinate and track individual scholar plans for scholars with Individual Education Programs. Provide direct scholar support through small group instruction. Collaborate with teachers so that they provide instructional support that leads to dramatic academic gains for scholars. Monitor and complete all IEP processes. Coordinate dissemination of information on scholar needs. Maintain all documentation and records for individual scholars; ensure confidentiality in reporting. Monitor for compliance with state and federal laws, ensuring consistent, fail-safe and quality documentation. Advise teachers and principal on accommodation processes for state and school-wide assessments. Accommodate and/or modify a curriculum that is aligned with the standards of Austin Achieve and Texas. Assess individual scholar’s progress and learning needs; demonstrate a relentless focus on helping scholars achieve. Communicate scholars’ progress toward realizing academic and character development goals with families on a consistent basis. Complete other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (required); Master’s degree (preferred). An active, valid Texas Standard Special Education certification or Intern Special Education certification, EC-6 Generalist certification. At least 1 year of experience as a special education teacher working with second language learners and scholars from low-income and underrepresented backgrounds (preferred). Experience with and strong knowledge of local and national special education laws and mandates Knowledge and Skills: Deep-seated belief in the mission and vision of Austin Achieve Be willing to do "whatever it takes" to ensure all scholars learn Hold all scholars to the highest expectations to ensure college readiness Strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
