Principal, Architect - Healthcare

Your Opportunity To be successful as a Principal Architectural Lead in the Health Sector, a collaborative mindset is essential. You will work with clients and internal teams as a thought‑leader, Health Sector champion, brand ambassador, and expert in project delivery. Successful candidates will have a strong understanding of healthcare design and delivery, active listening skills, and the ability to develop relationships internally and externally. You will champion design excellence through fiscally responsible, award‑winning engagements that focus on positive health outcomes. You will be supported by the global Health Sector team and will develop integrated design proposals for world‑class projects, while leading and mentoring others and collaborating with team members on deliverables. Your Key Responsibilities Lead architectural projects for major healthcare designs ranging from 80,000 sqft to million‑plus sqft. Interface regularly with architectural and engineering leaders across North America within the integrated design practice. Serve as a local leader, inspire the team, represent healthcare design, and reinforce Stantec’s global brand. Sustain and grow revenue in your region and across North America, attracting top‑tier clients and achieving growth. Collaborate with technical and managerial project leads to achieve operational performance metrics and improved health outcomes. Lead local and regional business development pursuits, including pre‑positioning, strategic proposal development, and financial goal attainment. Create long‑term client relationships and deliver value for Stantec. Maintain industry relationships with clients, sub‑consultants, competitor/teaming partners, and potential recruits. Share knowledge and innovation stories at client engagements, industry events, and professional networks. Mentor and coach emerging designers and thought leaders. Your Capabilities and Credentials Recent experience in healthcare with interest in specialty markets such as Academic Medical Center, Acute Care, Ambulatory Care, Specialty Care, Behavioral Health, Cancer Care, Children’s Health, Long‑Term Care, and Senior Living projects. Acumen in project delivery innovations (CMR, IPD, APD, Modular). Demonstrated design and planning leadership on major projects. Ability to lead project teams across diverse healthcare types and scales. Technical understanding of health‑facility architecture, including functional programming, site selection, core and shell, fit‑out, and interior design. Strategic pre‑positioning experience (expression of interests, statements of qualifications, RFPs, contract negotiations). Strong business development skills and a “seller‑doer” mindset. Entrepreneurial orientation with understanding of consulting‑service challenges. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational, coordination, leadership, and team‑building talent. Knowledge of market assessment techniques and ability to create aspirational business plans. Education and Experience Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or equivalent. Licensed or credentialed architect preferred. 15+ years of experience in the AEC industry. ACHA credentials preferred. LEED AP credential preferred. Pay Transparency Pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Compensation is based on education, qualifications, experience, and location. Certain roles are bonus eligible.
