Indirect Tax Manager

A growing, multi‑entity organization is seeking an Indirect Tax Manager to lead its sales/use tax and property tax function during a period of significant expansion. This role blends hands‑on cleanup work with strategic leadership , building a scalable, modern tax department. The Manager oversees a small team of tax analysts and reports to senior accounting leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of indirect tax professionals across multiple locations.
  • Supervise tax analysts, including review of filings, reconciliations, and exemption certificate management.
  • Improve and standardize processes across sales/use tax and property tax compliance.
  • Audit accounts against accruals and support month‑end close.
  • Manage compliance across multiple ERP systems during a transition period.
  • Serve as a key stakeholder in a major ERP implementation, ensuring indirect tax requirements are properly configured and tested.
  • Support international tax projects tied to global expansion.
  • Manage audits, respond to notices, and act as primary contact for tax authorities.
  • Research multi‑state tax laws to ensure correct taxability and exemption treatment.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual indirect tax filings.
  • Partner cross‑functionally with Accounting, AR, and other teams to ensure accurate invoicing and tax treatment.
  • Document workflows and provide reporting to leadership.

Required Qualifications ✔️

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive sales/use tax experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Experience resolving compliance backlogs, audits, or notices.
  • Strong knowledge of multi‑state sales/use tax rules and exemption certificate management.
  • Experience supporting month‑end close and account audits.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.

Preferred Qualifications ⭐

  • Experience in high‑growth or multi‑location environments.
  • ERP implementation experience (D365 preferred).
  • Familiarity with Vertex or similar tax engines.
  • Exposure to international tax matters.
  • Experience with mergers, acquisitions, or integration work.
  • Personal property tax experience.

Compensation & Benefits ✨

  • Target salary: $130,000–$150,000, depending on experience.
